Yesterday I attended a celebration of the life and work of the late poet and artist Siv Cedering, my significant other's mom who passed last November. The event was hosted by sculptor Hans Van de Bovenkamp, the widowed husband, at the sprawling Twin Oaks Farm and Sculpture Garden in Sagaponack, N.Y.
Ms. Cedering was a poet, novelist, screenwriter, children’s book author, songwriter, illustrator, sculptor, painter, musician, and translator. Born in Sweden, she lived with Van de Bovenkamp at the Twin Oaks Farm and Sculpture Garden for roughly 10 years until her death seven months ago at age 68.

Condolences too. Girlfriend never sounded right, neither does significant other. Lover is too pretentious, partner is too bland, wife is a horrible sounding word. Language fails, again.

Kinda sad when "wife" is considered awful. Then again, I get to wake up every day to the most beauitufl woman in the world and thank God (or whatever) for her. Happiness in matrimony is possible. Too bad people are so afraid to do the heavy lifting it requires.

I was hoping you'd comment on what becomes the poet most, but no, I have to be lectured on what I didn't mean. Does "my bliss" work? My bliss, she's blisstastic, a bliss out, a blisser.

A hard year for both Jeff and his girlfriend. His sister, then her mother.
My father and brother both died within two months of each other three years ago, and this is the first year I've felt like my life has been back on track again. My sympathy goes out to Jeff and his family.
But I also have a question for Jeff. Is Siv Cedering related to Cedering Fox? I was startled when you mentioned a few months ago seeing Cedering Fox's Word Theater in London. Cedering Fox was a good friend of a good friend of mine when they both lived in the same apartment building on Cornelia Street in Greenwich Villiage 20 years ago, and I saw Cedering often during that period.
I had completely lost track of Cedering until you mentioned her work in London.
She was the only person I've ever met or even heard of with the unusual name Cedering. So even though it's a first name for Cedering Fox and a last name for Siv Cedering, I wondered whether there is a family connection.
Now that I check your link to the East Hampton Star article about the passing of Siv Cedering, I'm even more sure there must be a connection. I see that that Siv Cedering has a grandson whose middle name is Fox, and that she collaborated with an illustrator named Connie Fox on a book of poetry called "Vixen", no less.
Furthermore, Siv Cedering's Wikipedia entry says she sometimes published under the name Siv Cedering Fox. There must be a connection with Cedering Fox.
Siv Cedering sounds like a woman of tremendous accomplishment in the arts, whose life inspired many others in the arts. I'm glad to have finally heard about her.
