I'm on the 35th floor of the Planet Hollywood hotel & casino, and I have to be honest and say the wireless doesn't work. (I'm using my AT& T Air Card.) I'm here to do three or four days' worth of Cinevegas and I'll soon be off to the races. A Get Smart screening will begin in an hour or so. The machine-gun poster [see below] is the first thing I saw after arriving at McCarran.

I almost hate myself for admiting this...Las Vegas is kinda fun in a twisted, over the top, in your face sort of way. And you can drink free booze while playing quarter slots.

Hey Jeff,
How about doing a Sound-Seeing Experience with your Iphone. Do you have one of those belkin recorders. Give em a whirl. I'd like to hear you doing podcasts soon.

Hey Jeff,
First time commenter, long time reader.
I'm tempted to say that you just throwing me a bone with your coverage of Cinevegas. I'd like to see more pictures.

Vegas is fun for about half an hour and then it becomes insufferable. I've found that people who love it and go there several times a year generally belong in either AA or Gamblers Anonymous support groups. If not both.

Other than cinevegas, is the town dead? The reports are that the price of gas is more or less drying the town up. You can tell by how much it costs to play at the tables. If there is an abundance of sub $25 tables it means that there are problems in Paradise.

Las Vegas is only for expense accounts and the dim these days.
The fun was sucked off long ago. Now it's just a dreary place where accounts go to feel up women.

Cirque DeSoliel Anonymous members unite.
What about coverage on Danny Gans? Who the hell is that guy and why is he sold out for two years?
When we stayed at the Tropicana, they wanted $25 a day for wireless access - the hotel room was $30 a night. Vegas is pricing itself out of the love. And I rarely saw free drinks at the quarter slots on my last trip. Since they now "tag" the pullers, they know when they've "earned" a drink.

Many Vegas hotels block wireless access so they can charge you to use your in-room broadband connection. Total bullshit...
And I'm sick of the "vegas used to be cool but now it sucks" spiel... it's right up there with "the book was better than the movie"

You might be sick of the "Vegas used to be cool" but it's more a case of "Vegas used to be cheap." It was a city that enjoyed comping you. Now it's a town that charges way too much for everything. Used to be any rube from Iowa could drive into town and be treated like he was a distant cousin of Mr. Hughes. Now it's all about attracting "the right people." It's about charging way too much cash for their various clubs. If you're not 26 and a Hedgefund manager, you're dirt. They don't need you at ReTox.
And I'm guessing for Six families, Vegas used to be cool before their family member died at City Center. Thanks for the flower, Big Kirk!

I've been to The Gun Store a couple of times and it's a literal blast to shoot just about machine gun you can imagine.
I've always wondered why this place has never opened for night-time hours. Probably because booze and machine guns don't mix well.

I had fun in Vegas last year for about two days, just taking the hotel shuttle around and walking to all the hotels for sightseeing. On the third day, I was so exhausted from the dry heat, lack of sleep, and overstimulation. The rest of the week sucked.
Lesson learned; next time make it a weekend trip.
