Sandler's Political Soul

A riff on Adam Sandler's Republican-conservative thinking as manifested in his films, penned by Cinematical's Eric Kohn. Are his core convictions all that evident in his films? The answer for the most part seems to be "yeah...but not so you'd notice."

I'm wielding a torch and filled with rage and drugstore bourbon. Where's this conservative-thinking "Sandler" you speak of?!

Isn't saying "yeah...but not so you'd notice" mean that something is not evident?

When you see Zohan (I did) you'll find it's the most even handed depiction of the Isreali-Palestinian debate on film for a long time. It shows that both sides are at fault and continue with the fighting and it's interesting to watch (I thought it would be Pro-Isreal).

You'll either love it or hate it. I thought it was funny but INSANE -- I heard it's gonna open to 40 million this weekend.

There's probably an insightful article that could be written about this subject this just wasn't it. The examples are weak. The conclusion that Sandler has all his charcters get along at the end of the film is not idealisitc, It's the standard formula for a comedy movie. 98% percent end with the characters getting along.
To sum up Happy Gilmore as a "Story in which evil is real, but courage and decency triumph," is a bit of a stretch. Which character represented true evil, Shooter McGavin or the alligator that bit off Carl Weather's hand?

Aside from his "serious" roles - Spanglish, PDL, Love Reign O'er Me - this is Sandler's funniest film since Wedding Singer ... Shelly Berman, where has he been? And the scene where they're talking about banging the presidential candidates wives, along with FLOTUS ...

I doubt a Republican would be in a movie which is "ok" with gay marriage.

Calloway: "And yet "liberals" are in movies all the time which are "ok" with the death penalty...."

I didn't know "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Dead Man Walking", and "The Green Mile" were pro-death penalty...
