Snappy Argument

Conservative wingnut Lars Larson gets bitch-slapped by Newsweek's Jonathan Alter ("taking things lower and lower...it's contemptible") and The Nation's Katrina vanden Heuvel over that cheap Michelle Obama "proud of my country" smear.

Seems like some of these right-wing wackos (I won't call them conservatives) won't be happy until we have an American version of China's cultural revolution. Funny how these guys think just like Commies.

Lars Larson, a true pig and vulgarian, broadcasts daily from his base in.....you'll never guess.....Portland, Oregon. It's the price we pay for our great food, beer, wine, coffee, book stores, bike culture, indie theaters and lefty politics, I guess. But sometimes I swear it's not worth it.

Shawn, I couldn't have said it better. I've had to deal with one of his producers. Words can't describe what an arrogant prick he was.

Ugh, that clip, what I got through anyway, just reminded me of how much I hate cable news. Smug, petty bickering from both sides. Blech.

I'm for Obama, but you can clearly see the difference between these two quotes. McCain's quote was referencing his indelibly brave POW experience in defending his country, an experience from 40 years ago, while Michelle Obama's was made only recently to claim her husband's nomination is the only think about America she likes.

I hate this squabbling over this pointless, sound bite bullshit, but if I was a Republican, of course I would harp on Mrs. Obama's comment. It was a stupid thing to say and it made her sound arrogant and entitled. But that one left winger in this clip playing the racism card is just as stupid to me.

Right on, Quit... The whole clip stinks of middle-aged men and women acting like children. Anyone can say what they want about MSNBC (lleft slant, etc.) but all cable news channels are like this now-a-days.

Their demeanor comes across as follows: "I need to get my opinion in here in order to sell more copies of my book and gain viewers."

It's sad that opinions and editorials in today's media have become suspect.

You would have to be an idiot to equate the two quotes. I assume Abrams is an idiot. And if it has to be explained to them, then it has to be done on a 3rd grade level to ensure they understand the explanation.

I've never heard Larson before so I have no idea if he is a prick but of the three obvious pricks in that clip, he isn't one.

We have really reached a nadir in political discourse. There is no sense of even having the illusion of engaging in a meaningful debate.

I think we've reached the nadir of people using the word nadir in HE comments.

This comparison is a specious waste of time. What exactly does it illustrate? He admits upfront that he respects McCain's comment and acknowledges that he is taking the words out of context. Effectively - whether the analogy is precisely apt or not (which it is not) - he is only pointing out that both sides are able to misinterpret remarks. That both quotes concern "love for America" is incidental. There is nothing substantive here.

I do think that Michelle chose her words poorly, but the level of vilification for it is too much. Be the bigger person and make that your argument - not that McCain once said something vaguely similar that you don't even consider a poor choice of words in the first place.

What a fucking douche bag... I can't believe some peple actually LISTEN to people like this. What I love is, Americans are so sick of this type of bullshit that the more it happens, the more it's going to HELP Obama win. Love it, keep it up...
