The geeks have known for a long while that Robert Downey's Tony Stark has a cameo in The Incredible Hulk (Universal, 6.13) . Here's a TV clip that tips/alludes. And...what, they're setting up an Avengers movie that would have these guys in it plus a few more? Something along these lines? (Embedded code for the spot withheld on YouTube.)

I know it's crazy and geeky, but I think there is a chance that Marvel may actually pull off this whole crazy idea of creating a universe of their characters they control.
Of course, I will be shocked if they get Downey and Norton for the Avengers movie, but the plan to follow up with a Thor movie set mostly in Asgard, then to follow up with a second Iron Man then a Captain America set in WWII, where he is frozen in an explosion at the end and then is thawed out in an Avengers movie later that summer with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury bringing them all together......well, I think it could actually be pretty darn neat.
Given the right creative talents, etc.

Just goes to show you how hot Robert Downey Jr. is these days, that the Hulk people are using his cameo to promote their movie.

I think it's a shame they blew this cameo in a promotional spot - would've been better as a treat for those sat in the cinema. Obviously they are trying to counter the months of slack build-up on Hulk with a promotional blitz at the last minute, including tying it to an already very successful Marvel summer tentpole picture.

At the risk of adding nothing - I agree with everyone's comments.
Clearly there is enough skepticism about Hulk out there for Universal to be playing the Iron Man card.
on the other hand, if this movie is GOOD (or at least not horrible) and if Marvel can pull together an A vengers movie, that will truly be something else - especially in the light of the apparently-aborted George Miller Justice League movie.
I feel like a really good mag article lies in what happened there (wasn't the cast even assembled in Australia before the plug was pulled?)

They hadn't finished casting. It seemed like they were trying to get it up before the WGA strike so they'd have another big summer movie, it didn't work, so they cancelled it. I'm not sure how much more there is to be said.

I'm sure part of it is that they realized they couldn't cast a new Batman (and probably Superman as well) and still have enough time to get the movie going, so they gave up. Because Bale was definitely not interested, and I think they weren't really interested in Routh.
