My son and I bet $20 bucks over this Coco Mademoiselle perfume ad that's bannered all over Paris. I said it had to be Natalie Portman; he insisted it was Keira Knightley. He turned out to be right, but it is anyone going to tell me they wouldn't bet on Portman also? Those eyes, the dark hair. At the very least she looks like a hybrid of the two.

It's obviously Knightley. You can tell by the eyes.

If I were Jett, I would have been cocky enough to bet you $100. : )

I could see how you could make the mistake. It looks a lot like Portman, which is strange because normally the two don't look that similar.

Well, one of the Knightley's first roles was as Portman's double in The Phantom Menace, so you're not the first to think they look alike.

Easy to seperate the two -- Kiera's the one with the freakishly oversized head.

They do look alike, but the stick-thin limbs give it away - has to be Knightley.

I'd love to get them both together in matching pink school-girl outfits like Portman wore in that scene in V for Vendetta (which proved to be the climax of that film, for me at least).

Any takers?

That's funny. I had the exact same debate with myself when I saw the TV ad. I was leaning toward Portman, though. Must be the hair.

"Kiera's the one with the freakishly oversized head."

Actually, it's not her head that is freakishly oversized. It's her body that is freakishly undersized. She's truly, scarily thin.

Yes, their eyes are very similar but what gives it away is Kiera Kneightly's jawline. It is amazingly close to an underbite. Because of that, her face is remarkably flat. Quite like Dietrich and it was Lee Garmes who firgured out how to light her when she arrived in Hollywood. When Dietricha arrived, she was slimmed down considerably and so, her face lost whatever features that DoPs were used to working with at the time. He figured out how to light her by "popping" her; putting an extremely strong light directly over her head and shining it straight down. It chisseled out her cheekbones where a light in another position would have failed to do so. Kiera Kneightly is somewhat similar.
I prefer the way Natalie Portman looks and smiles and laughs and... well acts. Kiera Kneightly does nothing for me in any department. Put her up against another English rose and Kate Winslet wins hands down every time.

Did you *see* the Wes Anderson movie? Portman is shockingly thin. She looks like a starving African child.

Wow. And to think most of the posters on here give flack when Jeff comments on someone's weight.... Kneightly's thin, yes but still a looker. And Winslet is not a whale! I still don't get how some people consider her "large".....

Thanks to ThePope's typ, I now know what to call my band- Dietricha!

Also, is there any word on Kiera's THE EDGE OF LOVE? It's opened in the UK, no?

Yeah, there have some reviews though its not out yet in the UK. Both Miller and Knightley have been lavishly praised for their performances - apparantly its their best yet. There's also clips of Knightley singing 'Blue Tahitian Moon' on youtube.

Portman's features are slightly more exotic--it's that hot Israeli blood--and I'm usually able to tell the difference within a few seconds by looking at the eyes. Knightley's look is just a bit more generic.

And while they're both thin, Keira is almost nauseatingly so.

Jackrabbit: Wow, weird. But Wikipedia says it's true, and they even quote a legitimate MSN biography :)

"got her first big break when cast as the decoy queen in the eagerly anticipated Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Knightley resembled the actual queen (portrayed by Natalie Portman) so much that her mother couldn't distinguish the two and some fans still insist both were portrayed by Portman."

that quote makes things sound a bit confusing, implying that Portman was always "Padme" while Knightley was always "Amidala."

I think Knightley was only used in the scenes in which both "characters" appear at the same time. (Lucas, oddly, deciding not to use CGI...)

It's in shots like this one...

And, yeah, particularly with the makeup they are virtually identical.

Seriously? It's taken us 9 years to reach this conclusion?

What I don't get is how Scarlett Johansson was cast as the Other Bolyn Girl, when Knightly and Portman as tightly corsetted sisters would have been a wet dream come true.
