Eight days ago Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes and Edgar Wright visited Laser Blazer, easily one of the two or three best DVD stores in Los Angeles (and certainly the cleanest and friendliest), to sign copies of the 3-disc Spaced: The Complete Series box set. The DVD package came out 7.22. Okay, so I'm slow. A day doesn't pass when I haven't missed something.

Is there version without Diablo Cody and Matt Stone yammering on it that is something more reasonable, like $10?

It's expensive for the same reason that the box sets of "FREAKS AND GEEKS," "SCTV," and "HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET" are so pricey: music clearances. In order to preserve all the well-known pop songs that were used on the show, the money-grubbing scum at the record companies want high fees. If you'd turn off the goddamn snark once in a while, C-Phreek, you might learn something.

Spaced is a thing of beauty. It should be made one of the great wonders of the world. Kudos as well to the three of them for standing up and reading the riot act about the US version going ahead without their blessing. What a horrific venture that'll be.

It was a good show, and was certainly ahead of the curve at the time, but it hasn't aged well for me. I'm so sick of geek culture. Pop culture references are not jokes. Pop culture references are not substance.

I absolutely, passionately loved Jessica Hynes in the first series of SPACED, but I was so sad to see her makeover come the second. I assume she saw herself on television and went on some horrible Jamie Lynn Sigler-style deprivation diet. What was wrong with how she looked in the first series?

For those who don't want to shell out $35 for 14 episodes, it's currently showing on BBC America. They show two episodes most nights at 3 a.m. EST, so it's best to use a DVR.

I had a strange reaction to Spaced. After having read so much about it, I expected to love it. I watched the first couple of episodes and found it mildly amusing, but no more. But then my wife really liked it, so we kept going.

The pop culture references have aged (except the episode where he loses his job over The Phantom Menace- that is eternal). But after you've watched a few, you gain a real affection for the characters. It's a shame it only went two seasons, but it's best to always keep them wanting more.
