Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Saw it again this afternoon in a mostly packed IMAX theater. Just as awesome a second time through. Definitely the best film of the year so far. It reminds me of another movie of considerable length that was just as much fun to watch twice in a theater: There Will Be Blood (and I saw that thrice - this Knight may have a couple more viewings in store for sure).

That's one of the most elegant and pleasant accents I've ever heard. We should all be so lucky.

I'm curious to see what he'll do next. TDK is fantastic: brilliant, complex, thrilling, funny, mesmirising. I can't get it out of my head.

All eyes on Nolan now. I remember first watching Memento 7 years ago and my obsession with that film growing with every recommendation i made of it to friends. When plans for a batman reboot were announced almost immediately Nolan came to mind as the man who could deliver the batman we all wanted but perhaps couldn't picture due to the raping of the character by joel shumacher in the 90's. And for me, the moment the franchise was re-born was when Nolan brought Christian Bale on-board, in comic book screen adaptations never has there been or ever will be as perfect a matching of filmmakers behind and in=front of the camera as Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale making Batman, could the comic book geeks have dreamed up better casting?

What's so funny about his accent? I thought he had a nice voice to listen to, nothing odd.

He can talk like Donald Duck anyway if he keeps making great movies like TDK.

Saw this two days ago in a packed IMAX house and was very impressed with both the picture quality and the seamless way Nolan integrated the IMAX sequences with the 35mm.

Amazing, I seemed to see some famous player had a personal account there with his recent photos. He looks hot and handsome! It was reported on MSN Charlie Sheen has found his girl there last May. I am a bit curious what kind of relationship he's looking for. Sexual or serious, or committed?

Jeff: Are you seriously mocking Nolan's voice and accent? The guy is very well spoken and there's nothing wrong with his accent at all. Speaking as an Englishman, I'd refer you to the Birmingham (that's 'Bir-ming-em', not 'Burr-ming-ham') accent if you want to hear something really annoying. Sorry, Brummies.

If anything it's a slightly posh accent; not surprising given where he went to school.

Question for those who've seen DK both IMAX and not. I only saw DK once, on IMAX. Which sequences are "IMAX enhanced?"

And, for the non-IMAX sequences, what's the aspect ratio of the film? For some scenes I noticed some squeezing on the sides, perhaps to account for the taller IMAX screen. I secretly hope that Nolan unmasked some top and bottom of the film for IMAX, but I doubt that's the case.
