Che Heading to NYFF?
A 7.9 report by Blogspout's Karina Longworth about an apparent intention to show Steven Sodebergh's Che at the next New York Film Festival was noticed today by Lou Lumenick's N.Y. Post blog (along with a half-amusing headline -- "Lincoln Center Braces for Che-Mania as Film Fest Books Commie Epic").
Longworth found her information on the evening of 7.8 while perusing the online version of the July/August issue of Film Comment (like NYFF, a production of the Film Society of Lincoln Center) and on the issue's index page, there was a preview of the magazine's September/October issue [which apparently referred to a Che presence at the NYFF]. "For whatever reason," says Longworth, "if you go to that page today the preview no longer exists, but since it's still in the Google cache, I was able to screencap it."
Longworth also links to an announcement from Mumbai's UTV World Movies channel that Che will be shown on Indian television sometime later this year, apparently in concert with the 50th anniversary of the Cuban revolution, or sometime in December.

Does anyone know if this thing is even going to have a distributor in the US? Based on reaction from Cannes, it sounded like awards bait, at least for Benicio, but that ain't gonna happen unless people have a chance to SEE it... I'd heard something about Focus being interested, but don't know if this ever materialized...

And ... if it does show up on Mumbai television, will it negate its chances for any Academy Awards? Aren't there rules about a movie not being shown on TV anywhere in the world before the end of year? I know for documentaries, there's at least a 6 month window between a theatrical run and a TV airing.

Best regards,Jane, I was worried this would be another movie that didn't live up to the hype youtube , but happily, that wasn't the case. Mulligan is every bit as good as advertised, but she's not the only one - everyone is good, from forum Alfred Molina to Cara Seymour as the parents, to Sarsgaard as the boyfriend, Dominic Cooper and Rosamund Pike as the friends,Youtube Olivia Williams as the teacher, Emma Thompson as the headmistress, and Sally Hawkins in a small role (which I won't give away). And Scherfig gives space to each performance, dl7b allowing characters to come on screen, rather than types.
One thing I would disagree with Morgenstern on - CHARADE did make somewhat gallery of a deal about the age difference between Hepburn and Grant, as I recall.
