Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008)
Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves'
Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign,
Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the
Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered:
Cloverfield was a major success.

He's turning into Crocker Jarmon without the folksy charm. So why isn't Lindsay Graham on his VP short list?

It might not have been rudeness -- maybe McCain just couldn't see or hear her from where he was standing.

"Grahamnesty" (their nickname) is despised within the Conservative community. I think if god forbid McCain wins we might see him as Attorney General (he's a JAG), but despite how much McCain might want to pick a close friend, he's not on the shortlist. Plus it doesn't help that he's the lovechild of Peter Lorre and Bill McKinney.

Caustic - you saucy bitch...you beat me to the "old man" joke....well played. The rudeness itself is not so much the surprise - it's the fact that he's so brazen about it. Um...people are filming this, Senator....and you're running for office, remember? He's approaching Cheney-level arrogance, and we're still 3+ months to the election. You'd think he was 6 mohths into his first term the way he's been sounding off. Of course, anything he can do to hurt his chances, I'm all for. Plus on a strictly comedic level, the guy is a fucking gold mine. It's like an older version of the Henry Blake character from "MASH" running for President. But, if I start seeing him leading in the polls, then I'll be scared shitless. For now, though, keep it up crazy grandpa!

First, what did he say?
Second, you Obama people go over the top on everything, don't you?
I am laughing my ass off at the FACT that Obama has slipped in the polls during his European vacation - the whole "world stage" thing has backfired on him, and he is already being quite defensive about it (check AP reports today to hear his acknowledgement that he has alipped in the polls during this trip).
So Jeff - it turns people HAVE taken notice of the Obama Euro Victory Lap Dance, and they apparently are not happy about it...

Some overlooked analysis and commentary on the Gallup numbers:
"A Gallup poll found Obama leading McCain 47-41 percent, a four-point gain for the Republican hopeful from earlier in the week."
"The drop-off in Obama's support earlier this week ... suggests caution in assuming that the trip will have any lasting impact on the structure of the race," said Gallup editor Frank Newport. "The jury is still out."
The devil is in the details...slip sliding away...

JHR: Moore simply linked an article which was already on-line. Also, I think that the second poll is more telling, since
most Americans unanimously trust McCain on "experience", but he seems to be slipping on his "guy you can have a beer with" cred. As for the states Obama has trouble winning by a landslide, well, they won't determine the election.
