Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008)
Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves'
Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign,
Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the
Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered:
Cloverfield was a major success.

That looks propagantastic! Seriously, does that remind anyone else of classic Soviet-era propaganda images? I'm NOT saying Obama is a Communist, but the poster sure does remind me of a whole different thing than what he was going for.

Well, it's very 1930s (the typeface, Gotham, deliberately tries to evoke public building signage and the like of that era) and everybody was influenced by the same modern art-- so it's not very far from anything like that to fascist/Communist propaganda. In feel, not in content per se.
Personally, I love the look of this stuff (it also strongly evokes for me the posters for Joseph Papp's Public Theater in the 70s, eg The Threepenny Opera)-- but I wonder if it's too arty-film festival-y for politics, which is so bland and rigid normally. Either everything will look like this next election, or nothing will...

If you blur your eyes just a little bit, it appears he's giving a "Heil Hitler" salute. With a really long arm.

I imagine the speech will carried live on cable news networks. At what time?

"I imagine the speech will carried live on cable news networks. At what time?"
I'm not sure what time the actual speech will begin, but the pre-speech coverage began yesterday and will continue on until the speech. Afterwards, the networks will break down the speech on their various post-speech coverage shows until sometime next week when they will give way to omnibus coverage capsules of media reaction to the speech.
Many of the networks will then follow that with multi-part mini-series events re-living the highlights of the speech and all that went into it.
F.Y.I. A brand new cable network was created several days ago specifically for the coverage of and subsequent discussion of the speech.

This is giving the McCain camp some pretty restless nights, apparently:

If there's anything that sums up the differences between the same ol', same ol past of one candidate versus lets look to the future of the other it's Obama showing he can repair our image (and hence our effectiveness) on the world stage contrasted with McCain "We can drill our way out of this mess, TRUST ME!" photo op.

You're confusing him with Prescott Bush.

Recently, quite a few celebrities and pro athletes were said to appear on the millionaire luxury club "R I C H L O V I N G.C O M" to hook up with hot girls, ladies, models... OMG!!! Are these famous guys fond of internet dating for now?? Maybe they are indeed so rich that they feel boring sometimes to need new things? It was reported on MSN Charlie Sheen has found his girl there last May.

It seems McCain is continuing his efforts try to draw attention away from Obaba . . . and continuing to not get the coverage he was hoping for.

That Time article is a good read. McCain's new slogan should be "Hey! I'm running too!"

I'm glad the flyer specified "Berlin, Deutschland" -- it would've been embarrassing if people saw it and showed up in Berlin, El Salvador instead.
