Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

The trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 12.12) with Keanu Reeves (as Klaatu), Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates and John Cleese. Directed by Scott Derrickson, written by David Scarpa. I copied the code from some Russian site called Ru Tube. YouTube had it up for a bit before it was pulled. It probably won't last very long here also. It's also watchable on this fan site.

Scarpa's script may, I'm reading, be based more closely on Harry Bates' 1940 short story called "Farewell to the Master" than the classic 1951 Robert Wise film with Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, Billy Gray and Sam Jaffe. Don't read the Wikipedia synopsis of the short story if you don't want to know.

Hmmm...not really selling it for me. Perfect part for Reeves though.

I know it's got purty landmarks and everything and I know Cloverfield and I am Legend had some striking imagery but I'm getting a bit tired of aliens attacking New York over and over again.

In ID4 it was novel and some movies have advanced that (especially with the 9/11 subtext) but surely there is somewhere else they can attack, even if it's less picturesque...? (And I'm not calling you Shirley)

In Signs the aliens were attacking corn fields. But the aliens in that movie were not very smart.

If you were an invading alien force and you had to pick one city in the world to make yourself noticed...

If New York City was good enough for Osama bin Laden, King Kong, and Ghostbusters, . . .

Yeah, this looks nothing like Robert Wise's original....nor does it look good.

There were no "clouds" attacking in THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL!

Of course it has an environmental bent this time. Also I really hope Kathy Bates isn't playing the President.

If Wells watched MAD MEN I'm sure he'd be more excited about Jon Hamm being in this. First TV star I've seen in awhile who I think has Movie Star written all over him.

Oh, it looks damn good to me all right. First I've heard of this. I'm tight with a movie dollar I tell ya, but this one's got mine.

They ought to reanimate Sam Jaffe for the wide-eyed authoritative scientist-believer's role, though.

Nice to see Jon Hamm with what appears to be a fairly large role. This is actually looking a lot better than I thought it would. I've had my issues with Reeves in the past, but I must admit that this is one role that fits him perfectly.

I'm glad the MAD MEN dude is in it, he was really solid in that series, great series btw -

What happened to the DC locale of the original flick, it was really part and parcel of that story. The alien invasion flick genre is getting old but im sure Reeves gets to pretty much play himself in this.

Could be a good flick the only danger is the studio trying to sell it as an ID4 of flick and it is not, the action scenes are probably brief and the movie does not revolve around aliens attacking earth - probably more of an ecological slant about how aliens wanna help us save our planet.

Looks like Roland Emmerich and M. Night Shyamalan co-directed.

Recently, On the hot millionaire singles club R I C H L O V I N G.C O M, I have some great experiences with hot girls there. Amazing, I seemed to see some famous player had a personal account there with his recent photos. He looks hot and handsome! It was reported on MSN Charlie Sheen has found his girl there last May. I am a bit curious what kind of relationship he's looking for. Sexual or serious, or committed?I am told to be a sexy american girl of 26. Catch me if you're quality and hot enough.

My head hurts at how awful this looks. It makes The Day After Tommorow look intelligent and contemplative.
