Oh hey Jeff. Two weeks ago called. Peter Travers is the only critic to review "The Dark Knight." Angelina Jolie is still pregnant. And people still don't believe "Inglorious Bastards" will ever get made.
Wells to thatrader: Thanks for the message. By the way, August just called and left a message for you. He said Religulous hasn't opened during his time frame yet, and that it won't open in September either. It will, however, show at the Toronto Film Festival during that month. Religulous won't open until October 3rd. So it doesn't matter if the trailer hit the web two weeks ago, or if I happen to post something else about it next week or whatever.
I think what Thatrader is saying is that the RSS feed is still broken and that's what it shows as the most recent stories. Admittedly, he could have been clearer...
Another hilarious film that encourages us geniuses to laugh at all the morons. Maher and S.B. Cohen (a devoutly conservative religious man, from what I understand) deserve each other. Let's see Maher make Cohen look like a fool. Oh no, wait, that couldn't happen, because Cohen is one of us - the smart guys. Well, we'll conveniently give him a pass, and laugh at the REST of the morons, shaking our heads in wonder and relief that we're not them. That's a sure fire way to make the world a better place. I thnk I'll make a film called "Smugulous."
Hi pm123. I think you're completely missing the point: the idea isn't just to laugh at the outward strangeness of religion (although that's definitely a part of it), but it's to force the observer to look at how bizarre the "other" religions appear, and then to maybe force you to step outside yourself and objectively look at how weird your religion looks to everybody else.
A basic tenet of most religions is that they're so god damn sure that they're the only ones who REALLY knows what the Magical Sky Wizard has on his mind and everybody else is a bunch of sinning heathens who would be better off dead, and hey! Let's help them get there faster! THAT'S the way the world has been for thousands of years and look where the hell we are.
I've got news for you, pm123: We're not in this pickle because of Maher & Charles' blasphemous movie -- they're just filming what's going on around them, and the reason why we're all laughing is because we know that the movie won't really change anything, and that we are good and phucked.
Read my entire sentence. Trying to change people's minds with the attitude that their current point of view is utterly misinformed and idiotic is an arrogant waste of time. Engaging the audience in a real exchange of ideas is art. Marcel Ophuls makes art. Bill Maher & Sacha Baron Cohen just preach and sneer.
So Bill Maher will eviscerate some stupid Christian rednecks... And pussyfoot around Judaism... He knows who butters his bread!
I know quite a few people who found BORAT funny, but REALLY racist: Smart metropolitan Jews shit all over hick white Christians... Can you imagine a similar movie being made about racist, stupid religious crackpot Jewish settlers for example? Yeah, thought not. It's depressing to see 'smarter than thou' hipster Americans lapping this garbage up...
A while back, I watched the grovelling Maher roll over on his TV show for the thuggish Israeli ex-PM, Netenyahu or whatever his name is... Fuck, that was a horrible thing to watch.
OMG!! It is true? This must be the hottest topic on the forum page of the tall dating site ~~~TALLMEETs.com~~~, where they have ever been and chatted for a long time.

Looks great. I wonder if religious groups are going to protest. Hell, they almost derailed Dogma.

I think you're making my point for me. Any film that tries to change the mind of the people who "just don't get it" is an arrogant waste of time.

Yes, trying to change people's minds is a complete waste of time...we should all just sit silently in our cocoons until we die.

Sure hope this is longer than "The Dark Knight," because a mere hour and a half of smirking condescension just wouldn't be enough.
