Moving Along

A Pew Research Center poll conducted in mid to late June has Barack Obama leading John McCain nationally 48 to 40. Obama is faring better with under-50 voters than John Kerry was at this point four years ago; is still weak with over-65s. About 30% of former Clinton supporters are resistant to Obama (i.e., PUMAs). A steady and dependable 12% of voters still insists on believing Obama is a Muslim with ulterior motives. A third of registered voters say they are undecided or may change their minds. But two new Zogby International polls have Obama leading McCain in the must-win states of Pennsylvania by 10 points and in Michigan by 14 points. So things are looking okay or at least decent for the most part. But don't get cocky.

The numbers are absolutely meaningless until we see the two start meeting in debates.

Personally, I hope Bob Barr wipes the floor with both of them.

What rock is the 12% living under? The internet is a dangerous place for people with closed-minds.

Josh: I just find it ironic that a guy who made a personal case against prosecuting a guy for his bedroom activities suddenly became the rep of the Libertarian Party.

You still believe Clinton was prosecuted for "his bedroom activities?" The colors must be freaking crazy in your world, D.Z.

Josh: If that wasn't the case, then Barr wouldn't have been forced to step down for his extra-marital affair...

Please, do yourself a favor and stop breathlessly posting poll numbers before the conventions. They are meaningless.

Now, if Obama is still showing something like 10% ahead after the Republicans glumly nominate McRage THEN you can start doing a little victory dance.

Last night, I was at a local county fair in an area just outside Lexington, KY. Small area, definitely midwestern heartland, the kind of area that Jeff wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole...and while the Republicans had nothing there that I saw at all, there was a booth of stuff that was "Vote Obama '08". Whether or not you think he's good for the country, he is a juggernaut.

I'm more disturbed that a former would-be drug czar has become the rep of the Libertarian Party. And this is coming from a supporter of Badnarik in 2004.

Barr's percentage in those states won't be that high, unless he finds a way to get into the debates. Doubtful.

Hahahahahahastopitnow. Barr (3%) is half as popular as Nader (6%). He has to triple his appeal in order to have a remote chance at being admitted to a debate. If the Libertarians wanted to make a splash (say at the 10% level) they shoulda stuck with Paul. Bob Barr is a recent graduate of the Cheney school of charm.

Rasmussen has Obama by one. Newsweek now has Obama by three, a 12-point crash from their bogus, highly-trumpeted poll of several weeks ago.
Frankly, I wouldn't trust any Newsweek poll.
