Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Hardball's Chris Matthews speaking last night on Jay Leno about his "thrill up my leg" comment about Obama....well said, from the heart, draws applause.

Meh. Is this the same guy who last year was babbling about Fred Thompson's sexy manly English Leather after-shave scent? With a whiff of cigar smoke smell?
How does Matthews keep that job?

I think Matthews is a little too much of a political junkie to be taken seriously. He often comes off as being in love with the process, the jibs and jabs and back-stabs of an election year. It's as if he's a kid watching the World Series who can't wait for the next pitch. Maybe that's why it's called Hardball.

He's an affable personality, sure, and if you must watch cable news, you could do a lot worse. But it's still cable news - at best an entertaining diversion from real issues, and at worst partisan agenda shrouded with the illusion of fact. At least Matthews is upfront about his passion, and makes no excuses for it. I admire that.

Sorry for the somewhat off-topic ramblings.

And that's why he hosts a Political show, and doesn't anchor the nightly news. I would argue his strangeness is nothing but an asset, and what he said about Fred Thompson was priceless.

Chris Matthews is a joke as a "journalist." He is a Dem party liberal hack who wrote an op-ed column for years and parlayed it into this TV gig. The problem is that he doesn't recognize the problem in wearing his heart on his sleeve in a gig that requires balance if not the appearance of objectivity. His "leg" comments about Obama were ridiculous for a man in his position - high schoolish, teen throbbish, bleeding heart liberal horse shit.

I much prefer The Daily Show's crack reporting team of Rob, John, Wyatt, Larry and Ed all telling host Jon Stewart that they all have a big boner for Obama last night.

JHRussell,

Are you talking about a different Chris Matthews? Surely you can't mean the guy who practically had an orgasm during Bush's "mission accomplished" flight-suit stunt.
