Not So Fast

The myth about media constantly giving Barack Obama super-favorable coverage befitting a rock star has been debunked by the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University. Their report has been summarized by L.A. Times columnist James Rainey. Sidenote: A Middle East-European tour bump for Obama over McCain, 49 to 40.

You know they pretty much only got that by counting all the straight news coverage as "neutral"-- as if devoting minutes and minutes to rock star adulation counted as "neutral." Not surprising that what remains after you subtract that is the commentary trying to balance it by making small criticisms.

This tells the real story:

"Obama got 166 minutes of coverage in the seven weeks after the end of the primary season, compared with 67 minutes for McCain."

But how many minutes do you give a guy who roams around a grocery store to the Clash's Lost in the Supermarket? How much time can you burn on an old guy and his closeted pal from South Carolina having a Sausage Party in a German restaurant?

McCain spent last week looking like a bitter old guy complaining that the media didn't love him. He kept going on about the Sheik whose life was saved by the Surge - yet the media was extra nice in refusing to point out that that Sheik was killed by the terrorists at the height of the Surge. Or was that the Surge before the Surge cause Surge really means.....

You're so right. How much more important that we cover an American coming to Berlin to say that as we once stood together in the name of freedom for the people of Berlin, now we must stand together to abandon freedom for the people of Bagdad.

The fact that an American politician stood in front of 200,000 people in Berlin without a single American flag catching fire is major news.

Media didn't care to investigate if John Edwards had knocked up a skank behind his dying wife's cancer ridden body.

That's the saddest thing I've read all week. Not the statement in itself, but that an American, presumably a "liberal," says such a thing so blithely.

Tell me, how does the coverage of Rev Wright, Michelle O's love of country, lapel pins, etc. rank, positive or negative or neutral?

a liberal? Why do you assume that? the biggest problem with Iraq is that we never treated those people as conquered. We didn't truly crack the whip on them and make them kiss the ring. We were too busy being warm and fuzzy with these soon-to-be terrorists. We kept going on about how evil Saddam was for killing of Sadr's family until we realized that this guy needs to be taken out - but then we pussed out and sent him tons of cash if he'd quit attacking us.

Rabid dogs must be killed and not nurtured.

I am definitely voting for Obama. However, I am suffering from a bit of fatigue with regard to his rock star status. I looked to my right in the grocery store check out line yesterday and the Obama family was smiling at me via the cover of "People". After news coverage the Pope would be proud of over the last few days that just seemed a bit much. Obviously it is all working for him at this time, I just hope there isn't a backlash around the corner.

It is SUCH a myth. Just because when polled journalists are planning on voting Obama at a 10 to 1 clip doesn't mean they LIKE him more.

And then there's the money. (note where the evil Faux Noise Channel is spending their money)

Walter: "Just because when polled journalists are planning on voting Obama at a 10 to 1 clip doesn't mean they LIKE him more."

Well, Bush's voters didn't really like him, either, so who's more cynical?

"The New York Times' refusal to publish John McCain's rebuttal to Barack Obama's Iraq op-ed may be the most glaring example of liberal media bias this journalist has ever seen."

I guess you don't seem to remember the other times they published his Op-Eds. Speaking of "liberal" media, why is Michael Savage still allowed on the radio, while the Dixie Chicks and Howard Stern were banned from it, for not liking Bush?

"Even the Associated Press — no bastion of conservatism — has considered, at least superficially, the media's favoritism for Barack Obama."

Huh? http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/07/fournier_to_rove_keep_up_the_fight.php
http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/16193.html#more-16193

"An analysis of federal records shows that the amount of money journalists contributed so far this election cycle favors Democrats by a 15:1 ratio over Republicans, with $225,563 going to Democrats, only $16,298 to Republicans ."

Too bad you don't provide a source for said records.

"And while the money totals pale in comparison to the $9-million-plus that just one union's PACs have spent to get Obama elected, they are more substantial than the amount that Obama has criticized John McCain for receiving from lobbyists: 96 lobbyists have contributed $95,850 to McCain, while Obama — who says he won't take money from PACs or federal lobbyists — has received $16,223 from 29 lobbyists."

Yes, journalists are the equivalent of oil companies. Brilliant.

"A few journalists list their employer as an organization like MSNBC, MSNBC.com or ABC News, or report that they're freelancers for the New York Times, or are journalists for Al Jazeera, CNN Turkey, Deutsche Welle Radio or La Republica of Rome (all contributions to Obama). Most report no employer. They're mainly freelancers. That's because most major news organization have policies that forbid newsroom employees from making political donations."

So if they have no employer, how are they part of the mainstream media? And if the media is "liberal", then why would it care where the money went?

Right Wing psuedo journalist. I know, big surprise. Obama is attracting bad guy money, due to their strong desire to have a place at the table and their lack of confidence in investing in the GOP at this point.

about as real as the myth of the liberal-biased media... apparently Fox is mistakenly calling Obama "Osama", before correcting themselves. Oops. Someone told me they are doing it repeatedly. I don't watch Fox much anymore because I don't think they're funny enough. They should try harder to be a parody news organization-- right now they report with too much of a straight face-- people take them seriously.

Are you even trying anymore, D.aniel Z.elter? Dixie Chicks and Howard Stern have been banned from the radio? Hmmm.

Why am I bothering with you? You're one of those people that pretends to not know the difference between commentary and news. ("So what if NBC news is liberal? You guys have Rush Limbaugh!")

Cool.

I think that's the conservative problem, since reporting on reality automatically makes you "liberal", while reporting on hearsay is what makes you more "balanced".

That explains everything. I was wondering why Stern could no longer be heard on satellite radio.... He's been arrested, beaten and jailed for speaking against BushCo. Total drag for all you suckers who pay for Sirius and XM.

It also explains why, when I stopped by Amoeba Records today, armed, jack-booted stormtroopers were standing in front of where the Dixie Chicks CD's used to be. They actually roughed up some pinko customer who wanted a copy of "Shut Up and Sing". Next stop - Gitmo!

What's it like being such an ignorant, knee-jerk douche bag, D.Z.?

Walter: "What's it like being such and ignorant, knee-jerk douche bag, D.Z.?"

Not as bad as being a goose-stepping, Hitler-kissing, Final Solution-endorsing Nazi like Prescott Bush.

have you called your local country music channel to hear some Dixie Chicks? Clear Channel (owned by friends of W) killed him. Clear Channel also dumped Howard from their stations when he was on his anti-W rant (before he went to Sirius).

Maybe John McCain on his next visit to Iraq should get a tour of the country from Sheik Abdul Sattar Abu Risha who requested the Surge to save his life? That would be extra good since McCain might finally find someone who looks worse than him in a photo op.
