Yup...Sarah Palin

NBC News has confirmed that 44 year-old Alaska governor Sarah Palin has been chosen as John McCain's vice-presidential pick. Pro-life, pro-gun, five kids -- obviously chosen to bring in the rural disaffected Clintonistas. Her suitability to take over for McCain should tragedy strike is questionable, at best. The "not ready" rap that the right has been throwing at Obama is now over -- it never stood up to reality but with the Palin choice it really has no footing. A major political gamble for McCain. Biden will make short work of her.

It does feel gimmicky...I just hope she is really ready for prime time. It is a bold, forward thinking choice, though, and makes Obama's pick of the beltway insider Biden look even worse, especially to the disaffected Hillary voters...I do wonder how up to snuff she is on the issues of the day, though, and how she will fare in a debate with Captain Hair Plugs...it is a gamble - I would have preferred Romney - but I like her over most of the other names that had been bandied about, especially Pawlenty, Lieberman, and Ridge...

Ummm, that's only if McCain, you know, dies.

Trouble is, as long as Barack Obama is alive at the top of the ticket, it's true for him.

You mean, political??

It's a brilliant pick. Not good for those of in the Obama camp. So they lose the "inexperienced" argument...although having to actually run a state versus represent it are two entirely different things, so it's not really an apples-to-apples argument.

Biden will make short work of her

You mean long work of her? I don't think Biden's been known for anything short before, except maybe his plugs. Seriously though, your overconfidence hints at the pang or flush of worry that must have shot through your body (as I know it has mine) when realizing that McCain might just have the numbers to pull this off, deservedly or not...

Looks like McCain just handed the election to Obama on a silver platter. She's only been a governor for one year, which means the whole inexperience argument against Obama just got thrown out the window. I understand that McCain feels he needs a game changer, but that doesn't mean tossing a wrench into the machine. Also, isn't Palin currently under investigation in her home state?

On the upside though, it's kinda cool to see a woman on the GOP ticket for the first time in history.

If you nominate somebody for VP, it means that they are ready to be president at a moment's notice. She has less experience than Obama.

Now, I agree with you that McCain will still going to play the card, but it's not going to go over very well when people can easily point out that McCain's choice for VP has less than one term as governor as her experience.

Whatever happened to Condoleeza Rice? I thought the Repugs were SO open-minded. How about Bobby Jindal? Nope, nothin doin.

Palin comes off as a capable, if somewhat goofy, functionary who carries out the orders she receives. Joe Biden will tear her up on energy policy--namely that all she wants to do is drill.

I knew McCain despised Romney with his all his heart, but I never knew he hated him so much he'd throw away the presidency because of it. Now we're seeing just how badly the GOP is fractured, and he's got to go to the convention like this? He'll be spending half his time trying to explain to GOP voters why he picked this woman and the other half the time convincing people he hadn't lost his mind.
Romney was the only chance Grandpa had. Why choose Palin? Because he needs an outsider? Or to get attention with a female candidate?
Barack's already stolen the "history making vote" schtick. Choosing Palin will alienate and demoralize GOP voters who have been conditioned to tolerate a Jindal or Rice, at the lower levels of government, but they'll be damned if they see a non white-male as VP.

This is great news of Obama. Palin will be just more fodder for use in the "experience" debate.

The only problem with this pick, from the Dem side, is that if Biden really chews her up in a debate, he could come off as "bullying a woman."

I'm a little troubled by this. Until this little state trooper scandal, she was getting some of the only rock-star coverage of any current Republican.

But McCain can't go to the experience well anymore. And he's one new eruption of skin cancer away to highlight exactly how much he needs a backup.

Biden might actually be super gracious to her because he's old fashioned, just like he was to Hillary in the primary debates. This might have been a genius choice.

buster: calculated and clubfooted means politically motivated and irresponsible. in order to win an election, the oldest man ever to run for president in our entire history has put a rank amateur a heartbeat away from potentially leading the free world. that is selfish and nutty.

don't know if you want to get into the fact that she believes in creationism, but not global warming, but if you do....

why do girls spend so much on their prom dresses? No one wants to show up with the simplest or ugliest dress! And every girl wants to feel like royalty on her prom night, and that sometimes comes with a hefty price tag! Actually, you also can choose
evening wear dresses in prom style as formal prom dresses, even some formal cocktail dresses also can be wore as prom dresses.
