Discland

Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Clear Sailing

The Weinstein Co. has won its appeal with the MPAA ratings board over a disputed NC-17 previously given to Zack and Miri Make A Porno, resulting in an R-Rating. The less ferocious rating nonetheless stands for "crude sexual content including dialogue, graphic nudity and pervasive language." Graphic nudity involving...? No, don't even think it.

Why does Cameron remind me of Frankie Coppola, right before "One From the Heart"...? http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3i6ec60c14937dc20da6960fa2dd95937c

More likely to be of the male and female actors in the porno sequences than Ms. Banks or Mr. Rogen.

Cameron who? Crowe? Did he direct Zach and Miri...? And if not, what the fuck does your link have to do with anything?

Violate yourself anally with a putrid salami.

This entire film is a trick to get us to think Elizabeth Banks gets naked. I bet she doesn't, and if she doesn't, I'm not going.

I believe Smith said the nude scenes involve Jason Mewes and (actual porn star, I think) Katie Morgan.

He also said they were more humorous than hardcore. He's steered away from nudity so far in his career so it could be interesting to see how he handles it...

DavidF - you are correct, Katie Morgan is an actual porn star. Pretty cute, bubbly personality. I think she'll do well in a Smith film, though I admit I've only seen Dogma and the first half of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

DZ, you should start your own blog with all your stupid links and all of your nonsensical endless-feedback-loop arguments so I can ignore you more easily.

Joey Lauren Adams thanks you for not watching Mallrats.

Ha ha - I have seen Mallrats many a time but that shot is 2 seconds or so and I'm pretty sure Smith says on the commentary track that it's only because the studio wanted some titty shots. (Note that Salma Hayek as a stripper in Dogma is 100% PG, in an R-rated movie.)

What I haven't seen anyone mention about Zack and Miri is that several years ago Smith did a long post on his website about how he had this exact idea for a movie and then found out - total coincidence - someone else doing something similar: the thing about two friends making an amateur porn.

I forget the name of that movie now but (obviously) it went nowhere so Smith obviously thought he'd go back to the idea and what he originally conceived. I'm hoping it's good but still sorry he never got to do Fletch.

I'll never forgive Smith for that scene in Dogma. I don't know what was worse: casting Salma as a modest stripper who kept her underwear on, or the disgusting shots of Jason Mewes waggling his tongue. Holy bucket of cold water, Batman.

Speaking of dick-shriveling, wouldn't it be funny/horrible if Banks did a nude scene in W? That would be a sick, sick joke for Stone to play on us.

DZ, in what temporal dreamland did you wake up this morning where you think you get to call Coppola "Franke"? Show some fucking respect.

Also, obviously we always hope for Graphic Nudity Involving Puppets.
