Verbatim quotes from two e-mails received this morning from right-wing patriots over the Jon Voight thing (with all original spellings left uncorrected): (a) "I just heard about your calls to blacklist Conservative actors and think you are a piece of shit"; and (b) "Congratulations, Mr. Wells, on your disgusting and vile comments on Jon Voit. You are clearly proof that the Left is still representative of Orwell's Thought Police. You discredit and mock Mr. Voit for merely speaking his mind. How dare you try to silence the word of good Americans. I ardently believe that you are true scum of the earth and a waste of life. Good day."
Comment for second arch-conservative: you should either use the term (a) "a waste of a life" or (b) "a waste of skin."

The best part for sure. No matter what you think of what Voight said, or Wells response, this is hilarious. For about five years any lefty that said anything against the war or against the Bush Administration was hammered in the press.
Remember Bill Maher? Remember "we have to watch what we say"? Of course they weren't threatened with a blacklist, but they were told to shut up and were called traitors and told to leave America.
Just another example of the hypocritical nature of the right.

And maybe it's not asking too much to notice that Orwell's fear was of totalitarian governments...and Wells is an independent internet columnist. At least the left's paranoia is plausible...

Mr. Wells, you seem to have dipped your unfortunate toe into the poisoned, murky waters of evil in Amurrica. Thank goodness you have lawyers and bodyguards. (You do have lawyers and bodyguards, don't you?)

Ha! I'm with Mjs. I'm not surprised by the misspellings, the childhood insults - though I'm surprised there wasn't a threat to kick your 'pussy liberal ass', that's usually a staple for these emails. But the Thought Police comment was way too much.
When will people grasp that you didn't even call for a blacklist, you just said, in not so many words, "Hey, I wouldn't lose sleep if this guy saw less work because of this." At least you didn't say, "If Jon Voigt doesn't like America, HE CAN GET OUT!" Always my favorite comeback of the right wing nuts.

Mjs - Forget? To this day I refuse to use either FedEX or Sears because they pissed all over the 1st Amendment because 6 idiots in Texas wrote them letters.
For me, I saw the true colors of the right when not single fucking one of them had the balls to chastise Ari Fletcher for those remarks. Everyone forgets with the convenience of hindsight that Obama could have been easily throwing away his political future when he spoke out against the votes for war. Had their been WMD's, any future opponent would merely had to bring those up.

I'm f'n fed up with the motherf'ckers on the lft and on the right. Fed up with the whole system which is broken down completely. Sick of the election, sick of the candidates, sick of it all. Ws sick of it a year ago and gonna be near death come Nov. Just so f'n tired of all this stuff. Isn't there a point where we just say enough is enough already? I am tired of all the preaching, be it from Wells or whomever. Enough already. Hell, I can barely type this. My mind glazes over except for everything else and my place in it.

Yes, which is very unlike the hypocritical nature of the left, which wants the government out of my bedroom and in my bank accounts.
You, me, we're all hypocritical ... if you dissected your belief system and ideology issue by issue you would find, i'm sure, you're just as much of a hypocrite as the righties over whom you enjoy gloating.

Supertaster,
Nope, I'm not. Live and let live, bitch.
But stay on issue, don't try to cloud it by bringing up things that aren't relevant to this particular post.
The righties are hypocritical as hell on this issue.
But I do enjoy gloating over the righties. They're, for the most part, not worthy of anything else.

How did you try to silence him? You just called him out on his paranoid delusional bullshit. He's the one who more or less implied that Obama is the Manchurian Candidate. Of course the Manchurian candidate was about a soldier who was captured in the far east and tortured as a prisoner of war and then ran for presi...oh shit.

But when Coulter says we should blow up the NY Times building, she's truly a bastion of free speech.

Yes, because corporations like Enron and Fannie Mae should be able to do what they want with no consequences.
