Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

How is this any different from "I told you so, nya nya nya nya nya nya"? Yes, we are ready for regime change. Chirac-- check. Blair--check. Putin--check? Olmert--check. Musharraf --check. Bush--next.

Yves I think he's trying to point out that the direction Bush has

taken the country has not worked out for the best and if

Mccain simply stays the course then we're just in for more

bad news.

I'm not sure what you think is so wrong with his statement.

JH, from your previous posts on HE, it's not a surprise that you don't understand the significance of Obama's statements.

Nonetheless, you post something anyways. Also, not a surprise.

As someone said, the alternate title of every Washington memoir is "If Only They'd Listened."

Yeah, if we'd listened to an obscure first-term senator, all these wonderful things would have happened. Damn! Why don't we listen to obscure first-term senators! They know so much!

"The terrorists who attacked us are still at large..."

Well, technically, they're dead. Of course, I know what he means, but many, many, many of the planners of 9/11 have either been captured or joined the guys on the plane in the years since.

Fair point but I don't think he's saying "You should have listened to me you nitwits!" as much as he's saying, "If you listen to McCain, you're listening to thinking that led us down this road and this road and this road etc." For the people that like the road, more power to them I guess. My thinking is more aligned with someone like Obama's though (of course).

Hey, let's invite Russia's immediate neighbors into NATO and then supply them with radar installations and weapons. And F the Ruskies if they don't like it!

Seriously, it's like the U.S. foreign policymakers miss the Cold War so much, they're doing everything in their power to bring it back.

Except for Bin Laden and those guys attacking us in Afghanistan, sure.

dangovich: Not that I disagree that increasing tensions with Russia is a bad thing, but if it was a guy like Yeltsin running the place, and not Putin, we wouldn't be so concerned. The real problem, though, is that we have no clout there, anymore; and Russia made us look like chumps who just talk big.

dangovitch,

No kidding. That's because they're playing the same bullshit game they've always played. In this particular iteration it's another variation on the "Red scare" theme that's worked so effectively to keep Washington funneling money to the war machine in the past.

Have you read Manufacturing Consent by Edward S Herman and Noam Chomsky? Older book, but they do an excellent, detailed job of outlining the media's complicity in shoveling propoganda. Great book, but actually pretty damn scary.

I think what MGMax is trying to say is this makes you unbelievably well-read, Mensa smart, a pleasure to be around, sexually attractive, and a damn fine American.

It's about time folks started dropping names like Chomsky. If someone were to mention the name Matthew Jospehson, my faith in this forum would be totally restored.

In a place which bans and/or is lacking in any major audio/video editing equipment? Not to mention that, assuming they do have all that junk, they're shooting from a cave, which is bound to screw up the reception of at least one electric connection.

I don't think he's saying "I told you so" at all. He is concisely outlining the facts and countering the misinformation that has been freely distributed by his opponents with regards to his position on the war on terror. I think he's doing a great job and it's nice to see him sticking up for himself.
