Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Hang In There

I'm one of the many people in this town who are grieved to hear about manager Joan Hyler's traumatic accident last Friday night. She was hit by a car while crossing Pacific Coast Highway. She sustained "severe and multiple injuries" and lost a lot of blood. I called the UCLA hospital where she's being cared for and was told to go to www.carepages.com -- my first internet attempt to check up on someone in a hospital and wish them well. My best wishes to Joan. She's always been a good egg and a kind soul.

What kind of person runs over somebody and doesn't stop? I don't understand this kind of behavior. I hope they find the person that ran her over and I hope they throw them in jail for at least a decade. You're not allowed to run people over with your car and keep on driving, as if the person who was in the road deserved it, and, oh well. I feel like I almost get run over once a week while walking my dog and my little girl. It seems like some people like to come as close to you as possible, to like, let you know that you're impeding their progress, that you're causing them to be late to wherever it is that they are going. Maybe it's time that pedestrians start carrying rocks, or spoiled eggs. And I would bet anything that the person who ran over Joan is at work today, or at home, and they could care less. AND WHY WONT THEY ASSHOLE WHO SITS ACROSS FROM ME STOP CLEARING HIS MOTHERFUCKING THROAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually the person did stop. I am not sure who gave you the information that they didn't but they did. We passed by and then stopped and they were all there. Don't print false statements. The people were all very shaken up and very upset.

I don't want sound heartless, but I've been through Malibu on a Friday night and seen some near misses, especially near places like Geoffrey's and private parties from folks dashing across. Or worse - just strolling. PCH is an actual highway out there and cars are doing 50mph, coming around curves on a road with very little lighting.

Phreek: Most of L.A. is suffering from crappy or no street lights at the moment, but no one wants to do anything about it.

I always respect Pedestrians when I drive but the car behind me isn't so real about it. I hope she gets better though, getting hit by a car is never a good thing.
