A 8.18 Hollywood Reporter story by Elizabeth Guider and Paul J. Gough says that the Hollywood actors expected to attend at least some of the Democratic National Convention events in Denver (Monday, 8.25 through Thursday, 8.28) includes Ben Affleck, Josh Brolin, Annette Bening, Spike Lee, Anne Hathaway, Susan Sarandon, Richard Schiff and Kerry Washington.
That's it? Feels thin. There must be many, many more going than this. Especially if you throw in directors, producers and screenwriters.
Maybe some celebs are keeping their Denver plans deliberately under wraps? If I were running the Obama Denver effort I would want to keep news about Hollyweirdos attending the convention and going to private parties down to a bare minimum. The rurals who believe that wearing flag pins on your lapel is a significant issue will surely resent hearing about celebs drinking Pinot Grigio at elite Mile High gatherings. But then they're good at that. Resentment, I mean.

The old-timers in Hollywood probably wanted Hillary to win since, for them-at least judging by their casting and awarding decisions-anyone with light skin who isn't a male, or who doesn't try to challenge the old white male status quo, is considered "progressive".

Amen, brotha. As someone with past experience in Dem Party event organization, keep 'em locked away and out of sight and definitely out of the limelight.
I think it's perfectly understandable for lower-class Americans to not only resent but despise silly elitists like Anne Hathaway, famous and rich because she's slightly attractive. I just wish they'd stop voting Republican because of Jebus.

I was hoping there would be many, many more Hollywood celebrities at the convention. I was planning on making a killing at the "Take Me Seriously Please, I'm Wearing A Pair Of Glasses" booth. Prescription, non-prescription. Take your pick. Stop by. Try some on. Look for the special "Friends of Tim Robbins" section for extra savings!

D.Z. has officially progressed from being run-of-the-mill wrong to an almost Dadaist level of contrarianism.

"Elitist" is the last word I would use to describe Anne Hathaway. She always seems down to Earth to me. And she's famous and rich because she's a talanted actress. Oh, and she's VERY attractive, not slightly.

OK, I guess I have to be the one to state the obvious: If Josh Brolin really does attend the Democratic convention, you can bet your ass all the right-wingnuts (like, say, Walter Sobchak) will start bleating: "See! See! He's a Democrat! So you just know that W. will be a horrible movie!" Or: "Well, what else can you expect from Barbra Streisand's stepson?"

Leydon I think that will be ignored when Brolin gets drunk and beats the crap out of some DNC staffers.

I don't think anyone needs to see Brolin attend a convention to realize that W is a going to be a terrible movie and a huge bomb.

I think Joe is right. I thought the same thing when they cast Dreyfuss as Cheney. Yes, he's gonna be great, but it just gives more ammunition to those who doubt Stone's claims that the movie is non-partisan.
