Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Denby's New Yorker review was positive in the extreme while I recall Jeff's reaction was mixed.

Interesting to see where this will go.

This has been bugging me for a while, but I remember-when I was a kid-seeing a comedy with Dan Akroyd and John Candy, where they play former Boy Scouts. Does anyone know the name? It's possible I saw a poster with them on it, and thought they were in the film, so if anyone remembers, I'd appreciate it. Also, conservatives can

I was gonna ask about the other film, but I remember it was called "The Rescue".

There was a movie called "The Great Outdoors", but I don't recall any Boy Scout references.

However, there was a movie called "The Wrong Guys" starring Richard Lewis, Richard Belzer, John Goodman and Louie Anderson. It was about a several guys who were Boy Scouts who reunite as adults to guy camping. It came out of New World Pictures, which should give you an indication of its quality. The writer and the director went to do the tv show "The Flash".

I meant "to go camping" not "to guy camping".

We should save the "guy camping" for another site. To be more on topic: I'm interested in seeing Vicky Christina Barcelona.

mjn: You might be right. I probably was around that age when I saw it, and Louie Anderson made his career off of confusing me with John Candy, so thanks.

Something wrong with "guy camping?" I'd like to go Guy Camping with Brad Pitt and no, he doesn't look puffy or anything like that - still flat out gorgeous.

Didn't some illegal aliens die while helping to build this thing? You'd think that this would be reason enough for liberals to consign this landmark to the wrecking ball. Hypocrites.

Zimmergirl, nothing at all wrong with "guy camping." And I especially liked how you made it relevant to a previous thread.
