Eleven or twelve years ago Robert Evans shared an unfortunate biological truth with me, which is that "when you get older your nose gets bigger, your ears get bigger and longer and your teeth get smaller." This is what came back to me, in any event, when I read Elizabeth Snead's photo-comparison article about nose jobs.
Snead puts it thusly: "Ears and noses are made mostly of cartilage that may continue to grow as we age. So when a person's nose is perceived by others to be getting smaller and more refined over the years, it raises question for the eagle-eyed star watchers."
Cheers to Owen Wilson for holding back, standing his ground and not going with the flow.

Some of those are just so lame. That Snead woman should be fired and is an embarrassment to the LA Times. Yeesh.
Yes: Jennifer Lopez, Blake Lively, Jennifer Aniston (but not that photo comparison, it's wrong), Ashley Tisdale, Kate Hudson (again, they got the wrong photo, though), Rachel Weisz, Tyra Banks, Michael Jackson, etc.
No: Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Madonna, Katie Holmes, Michelle Pfeiffer

Though Halle Berry and Lil' Kim seem to have recovered quite nicely from a horrible zombie period.

This obviously owes a lot to the recent New York magazine cover article on plastic surgery (issue date August 11, 2008). Inside, they clearly detail that Madonna has had work done, show a pic of young Angelina versus current Angelina (and the nose appears to have been carefully shaped). Some rhinoplasty isn't as obvious as others. I mean there are those who claim that even Ms. Streisand had a little work done -- shaving down the bump on her nose a bit. (She wisely chose not to have a full-blown nose job for fear of how it might affect her singing).
Unfortunately we live in a time when plastic surgery is a norm for both men and women. I knew an actor who had a supporting role on a now forgotten TV series. While still in his 20s, the makeup people kept commenting on the lines he was getting, and kept recommending doctors. He saved his paychecks, lived frugally and when the show bit the dust, returned to NYC where he's concentrated on stage acting. And no -- he never had any surgery. But with all the vultures making comments and knowing how insecure actors are, it's now wonder that plastic surgery runs rampant in Hollywood and has now spread elsewhere.

Please don't make a habit of linking to Snead. The LA Times has sunk low enough without that lesion stinking the joint up.
