Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Spoof Song

British comedian and radio talk show guy Joe Cornish has recorded a Quantum of Solace spoof song that isn't half bad, especially since he sounds a whole lot like David Bowie. But the best lyrics have been tapped out by Cornish's radio partner Adam Buxton: (a) "I want a quantum of solace, but just a quantum / I know they do big bags of solace, but I don't want 'em" and (b) "I met a lovely lady, but found out she was a rotter, so we exchanged some saucy quips, I snogged her, then I shot her".

Ah, Adam and Joe. Comic geniuses. The whole Robot Chicken "use the toys to make a silly spoof" thing was done so much better on The Adam and Joe Show back in the nineties - their various takes on Star Wars being particularly good.

Last I heard Joe was writing Ant Man for Ed Wright and Marvel - hope that's still on.

It couldn't be worse than the Casino Royale credits song. You Know His Name or something like that.

I do miss Roger Moore. Also, to steal a page from LexG, Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" fucking OWNS, the DVD has made me realize this. I put that sexy mother on a driving mix.
