Stoop No Lower

McCain's Moses/"The One" ad -- hilarious -- basically says don't vote for hope or change or any notion of things being better. Stick with the tried and true and glum way of government. Mind-blowing. Well...revolting, really. But I'll bet it's playing with a certain sector of the public.

The ad uses that shaved-down Obama quote thjat popped last weekend, to wit: "I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions." The actual Obama quote reads, "It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign -- that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It's about America. I have just become a symbol." Naturally, the lying McCain ad guys are using the abridged version.

Its a two way street. Both candidates are horrible, just in different ways. Its like trying to decide between being exposed to anthrax or sarin. Either way youre going to probably end up dead.

Wait, seriously? That's a legit ad? I don't believe it. I can't, really. That's a parody, right? If not, it's flat-out "Damien: Omen III" shit. I must have missed something. I'll go back and find out it's from "The Onion" or summink, yeah?

This is good comedy. It's obvious McCain has nothing of substance to offer, so instead they resort to attacks. Oh, wait...McCain wants to expand oil drilling. That'll lower the gas prices...after his dead.

Okay, it's a legit ad? Wow, so it's totally playing into the born-again idea, somehow based on Scripture, of Satan coming to earth in the guise of a U.S. President. That's a real fear-slash-invitation to the Rapture for these people. I'm still waiting to learn that this is a parody. Otherwise, to paraphrase Spinal Tap: "None more lower."

Edward, although I dont agree with McCain on pretty much anything, I think its very safe to say that expanding domestic drilling will indeed lead to lower prices at the pump in the short term.

Case in point, take a look at the nosedive the price of oil did after Bush lifted the executive ban.

For further proof, take a look at what happened when Mexico locked in all their future contracts at (I believe) around $130 or so.

Gotta love speculation.

"Both candidates are horrible, just in different ways."

Indeed, are you joking? Obama is a "horrible" candidate? By what norm or standard? Or is your world-view so dark and jaded that you believe that any candidate for President would be horrible? Why are you so angry and bleak?

It is remarkable that some, so desperate to find fault in everyone, based upon their own failures in life and their latent anger at anything that aspires for something better, will just spout off tourettes-addled, derisive ad homs at Obama merely because he is effective at communicating his message and is likeable. If you would stop for a moment, take a breath, and examine his approach or his thinking, I'm not sure there's much to hate.

A good example would be looking at his recently-released law school examinations he gave, and his comments upon what he believed to be a model answer. What you would see is no demagogue or pie-eyed idealist, but a pragmatist who is able to grasp several sides of complex issues. He understands nuance. And people who practice law and have more than a superficial understanding of Con law will tell you that he gets it. He understands the limitations of Government within a democratic republic.

Yeah you can prattle on about how he has not been in Washington for 30 years, blah blah blah. But the dude is sharp. Based upon your past posts, I don't think you're a dummy either. So, Indeed, rather than swallow whole the caricatures propounded by the open-mouth-breathing set, do a little independent thinking and keep an open mind. You might actually like the guy.

This cannot possibly be an ad organized and paid for the best group of political message marketers in the United States. All this does is give Obama more face time and more exposure.

I suppose the McCainers are trying to soften Obama with these body blows, then will come in hard with strong negative campaigning closer to the election. I just can't believe these ads have any traction at all. Negative ads work when they scare voters from voting for a candidate, not when they give him backhanded compliments.

I just watched a clip of McCain's most recent "town hall" where he was asked why, in 1983(?), he voted against making MLK Jr.'s birthday a national holiday. His response, beaming with pride, was "Because I was wrong."
Well, John, I'm so happy that you can admit it now, but why did you vote that way back then? Did you consciously think "I am going to do the wrong thing and vote against this" or did some other, darker thought cross your mind?

I'm growing more and more disgusted with this guy - and I used to actually like him.

Yes, Dinther "said it," and he's quite correct, but why does it fucking need to be said at all? This is how fascism triumphs, traditionally: it puts people who are correct and justified and right on the defensive. And then it goes from there. Hello? Fucking history! Obama is young, fit, smart, progressive, caring, compassionate, exciting, popular, full of great ideas, already a symbol of what this country could be in the 21st century-- so what can these assholes do but turn it ALL against him? And baldly, brazenly, cynically, disengenously say that all those fine attributes are not fine but are in fact are wrong and evil? What choice do they have? The strategy is laughable, and if I werent such a hard-bitten realist, I'd be laughing. Instead, I am depressed, because these cunts might just pull it off. Also, I'm starting to get pissed. "This will not stand," as Dana Carvey said.

dinther,

I know its easier for you to see anyone who doesnt get on their knees and bow towards St. Obama as dark, jaded, or one of many other adjectives folks like yourselves tend to throw out in similar situations.

I dont care that the man hasnt been in Washington for 30 years. I wouldnt care if he had been there for less than 4 years.

Failures in life? For someone who in the very same sentence condemns "ad hominem attacks" thats pretty ironic.

Whats funny about your post is that you try to convince me that hes right for POTUS because hes a likable guy who speaks well. Im wondering how low the bar is in your mind if thats your main selling point on the man. Yeah, hes a great speaker. I think its great that he has directly or indirectly gotten more people to care about this election in a long time. As a black (well, 1/2 black man) I also gotta admit that I just like the idea of a black man being the frontrunner for the most powerful man in the world.

I just dont agree with his politics, and (as I work in finance) I think from an economical standpoint he is going to do much more harm than good. Although to be fair, folks like Warren Buffett and Jamie Dimon support him, so maybe Im in the wrong on this one (or maybe its because Im not a gazillionaire like the aforementioned folks).

The fact that you cant understand/appreciate that and automatically assume I watch too much Fox News...well it looks like Im not the one whos in need of much more independent thinking.
