I've seen it, posted an update and put it to bed already....Jesus.
12:30 pm Pacific Update: "I've heard some of the news. I've said before I think families are off limits, children limits. It has no relevance. I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. My mom had me when she was 18. And how families deal with issues of children shouldn't be part of our politics." -- Barack Obama speaking to reporters a little while ago, filed by MSNBC's Savannah Guthrie at 2:40 pm Eastern.

I think Mccain by choosing Palin is just tacitly telling Americans what a Joke this whole election process is. The President and Vice President does not really matter our society has been taken over completely by the major multinational corporations so why bother setting up a pretense that a qualified VP really matters.

I was trying to keep an open mind about Palin. However the fact that her 17 year old daugher is pregnant is disconcerting. First it makes Palin a little too "real". Not only does she have a child with Downs Syndrome but on top of that her 17 year old daughter is pregnant and is planning to marry. Now things will probably work out for the Palin family but I don't want to see that kind of baggage dragged into the White House. The idea of a "Palin Bunch" type scenario in the White House (complete with bear skin rugs) frankly make me a little queasy. I'll see how she handles things in the debates but I'm starting to lean towards Obama at this time. McCain may shore up the Christian Conservative vote with Sarah Palin but I feel he'll alienate the moderates come election day.

Josh, I'm no fan of liberal bloggers as you can see if you read some of my posts here aimed at Jeff Wells as well as defending Sarah Palin. However as the hard facts come out I'm becoming leery of her being on the ticket. I just think she may be better off staying governor of Alaska for a few more years until her kids grow up and she gains some more experience.

As ugly as the weekend rumor was, the bloggers were absolutely right for following the story.
And I'll tell you why: It just got Palin to publicly disclose that her teenage daughter is 5 months pregnant. When was she planning to make this news public?
This is the result of McCain choosing a running-mate who has not been properly vetted. I'm not talking about his campaign -- they knew. I'm talking about public vetting. The moment he chose an unknown, it was obvious people were going to turn over any stones they could find.
This is McCain's fault.

Wells to Massey: You're thinking of voting for McCain-Palin because liberal bloggers added up the indications and asked questions, and in so doing came to believe they were smelling blood in the water? Good God, man. I hate emotional fence-sitters! "Eewww, my feelings just changed so I might vote for the bad guy now out of spite for bloggers who exhibited jusitified curiosity!" Are you serious when you write this stuff or pretending to be this "eeww" person?

This story reeks of bullshit.
My intuition tells me that Bristol isn't really pregnant, and we will next be hearing about how she had a miscarriage. Mark my words.
As for McCain knowing about this ordeal beforehand? BULLSHIT!

I feel sorry for Bristol. She's just some dumb teenage girl who got in trouble. She never asked to be in the spotlight. But because of the ambition and recklessness of her mother and McCain, her life is now in the glare of a spotlight the size of the entire country.

Sarah Palin is not the "enemy" like so many of the idiot bloggers are trying to paint her as. She's just an ambitious woman who has the opportunity to be vice-president of the United States.
I personally think she's interesting with all of her good traits and the potential negatives. I don't agree with her on some things but if you look at where she comes from (middle class Alaska) you can see the reasons she is who she is. That doesn't make her good or bad just different. Something people with opposing viewpoints can't seem to rationalize.

I'm getting really sick of this revelling in all things working class, as thought that makes you a better human being. Way too much attention is being paid to that fact in this election and it's like we've gone back to the 1950;s. I don't know what to think about this pregnancy so I'm trying to think nothing. Watching Sarah with Maria Bartaromo last night I was impressed by her passion for Alaska and her people but she talked soo endlessly and repeated everything she said over and over, she just sucked the air out of the room. Maria was exhausted from just being silent with this woman who went on and on and on...I think she's got good points but seriously, vice-president? I'm not sure she wouldn't be crushed by those way more experienced.

Wells: "...because liberal bloggers added up the indications and asked questions, and in so doing came to believe they were smelling blood in the water?" Do you consider that some sort of journalism standard? BULLSHIT.
Let's apply those standards to other cases:
1) The name Obama 'sounds' muslim.
2) He's black (!).
3) His father is not an Amurrican.
Conclusion: Obama is a muslim!
Great work!
Is there anything uglier or more pathetic than strident, jingoistic partisanship? And still you wonder why the young people check out of the process.

Again, what about Sara Palin's bizarre trip from Texas to Alaska? When does camp McCain/Palin plan to clear up that weird little story?
What's the age of consent in Alaska?
How old is the guy who knocked-up Bristol?
It would be irresponsible not to ask these questions, right Michelle Malkin?
If Sarah Palin didn't want these questions asked, she should not have excepted McCain's VP offer. Horrible, horrible parents.
And with all due respect to Obama on this situation, he can go fuck himself. If he wants to poke at Republicans with a foam finger, FINE! Me? I'm going to use a sledge hammer wrapped in barbed wire, with lighting on it and covered in blood from Cthulhu's black heart.

What pisses me off is that these "conservatives" all run on a "family values" platform, espousing all this shit about how abstinence works and being morally righteous in the way they conduct their lives - preaching that conduct to the entire country - but, inevitably, they are always the first to fall from grace. They want to have it both ways: our children do not have sex before marriage, but when they do, we'll support them and encourage them to have children while they're still children themselves. How about fucking encouraging them not to have children when they're seventeen, by discussing birth control and the danger of STDs with them. Trying to get teenagers to abstain from having sex is bullshit. It's a biological imperative - and if they're not having traditional intercourse, they're doing it anal (with more risk of AIDS) and definitely oral. But they'll just keep their heads buried in the sand of moral righteousness and only pop them out when they have to crow about how they're doing the right thing in supporting a 17 year-old girl to screw up her future. They can't even live by the bullshit of their own party line. The Republican party is the party of hypocrisy, greed and war mongering. I have no love for the democrats, but at least they're not anti-science and anti-environment.

The first time I encountered the wonders of the internet was around this time. I was shown a bulletin board with about a zillion posts on whether Hillary was the anti-christ or the second coming. I didn't get an ISP for about five years. How times have changed.

It all sounds so simple and logical, doesn't it?
But by discussing it, you're opening that door just enough for the devil to get his cloven hoof in. Best to aim for the ideal and suffer the consequences when it doesn't pan out. Then you can make a big show of forgiveness.

Wells, you left out the part where Obama essentially said people like you disgust him, and anyone on his staff having contact with such an element would immediately be fired:
"I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us," he said. "Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I thought there was somebody in my campaign who was involved in something like that, they would be fired."
Slow clap.

Thanks for the benefit of the doubt, and no, the reprehensible actions of the last few days won't make me vote for McCain. That said, however, you'd have a tall order in convincing me that McCain - or Obama, for that matter - would truly "endanger the country." (I'm voting for Bob Barr, incidentally).
I'm just happy that I have many liberal friends, and we all understand that the opposing side isn't best reflected in the loudest voices of the Internet.

I was referring to the seemingly reasonable possibility of Sarah "The Pledge was good enough for our founding fathers" Palin sitting in the oval office, but yeah "endanger" was probably too strong of word. How about "embarrass?"
