Following Brad Pitt's $100 grand donation to fight Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage, Steven Spielberg has has coughed up the same for the same cause. But that video of Keith Olbermann writing a check for $1600 (was it $1700?) to Alaskan charities as part of his Sarah Palin $100-per-lie fund still takes the cake.

It's not just her lies, but also her management style that make her completely unsuitable for any office. She doesn't take criticism well, doesn't seem to care about the mayors of Alaska and she and her staff are busy hiding their e-mails using private e-mail accounts and not state e-mail. I find it hard to believe your basic Republican would find this suitable for a person a step away from the Presidency.

She is opposed to everything progressives have fought for over the last 100 years, and the modern Republican party's number-one goal is to piss off liberals. And I don't mean that half-jokingly. That's they only reason any of them find her suitable.

Olbermann actually donated $3700 to the Alaska Special Olympics the other night, Jeff.
Good cause, too, and it just smacks of Palin's sanctimoniousness that she'd cut their budget in half, considering...you know.

(Caveat up front: I am aware of this only because it was on the AOL news "ticker" that pops up when you check emails. No offers for subscriptions to US or People, please.)
With Pitt and Spielberg donating, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi will now look really bad for being on a list of high profile gays who haven't, especially when you consider that they have directly benefited. Perhaps they were waiting for a CD to mature or something, but only one month out is cutting it close on an issue they could eat alot of bad publicity over.

It's also possible that they just consider charities to be a private affair that needn't be publicized.
I'm surprised that Jeff is still in favor of this, considering Spielberg's support of it.

I would rather have Palin in charge than Biden who shouts his foreign policy acumen from the rooftop and yet voted in favour of the Iraq war he now opposes. I'd rather have a first-time director behind the camera than the political equivalent of Night Shyamalan.
Olbermann, keep doing what you're doing. Your sinister elitism, like one of Van Ackerman's goons Advise and Consent, is doing your cause no good and therefore us 'wingnuts' can only stand back and smile at we see.

Was Olbermann wearing women's reading glasses as some kind of statement?

Ellen has been very open about how and what she chooses to donate to. She has had several shows in support of Brad Pitt's Make It Right campaign. I believe via her own pocket and those of her audience members she has funded 7 houses in New Orleans at $150k a pop. She publicly donates to animal rescue organizations and children's charities. She has also used her show to point out prejudice against the LGBT community and on top of that sold her wedding pictures to People Magazine. Maybe she could donate that money to the No on 8 campaign? Private about the charities she supports, she is not.

Yes, because if there's one thing that Republicans don't do, it's shout their foreign policy acumen from the rooftop, a rooftop which, if you stand on it, you can see Russia from. And if there's a second thing they don't do, it's flip-flop.
