Letterman is always at his best when he is angry or feeling slighted. He gives McCain a verbal dressing down, yet retains a lot of class. I would have called him everything I thought I could float past the censors.
McCain is sleeping in Manhattan tonight. he's speaking tomorrow at Bill Clinton's Global Initiative. His whole "racing to D.C." story is such B.S. He'll get there in his sweet time.
This is just sad and pathetic. Dole-Kemp '96 all over again.
That was awesome. I doubt McCain will be on Letterman any time soon...
I think that whenever Letterman does decide to hang 'em up, Jon Stewart would be the go to guy for CBS. No disrespect to Craig Ferguson, who I do like and may be the heir apparent, but Stewart should get a shot at this...

Aladdin, in the recent Rolling Stone interview it seemed to me as if Dave were acknowledging Stewart will replace him. I would love to see Ferguson retain the Late Late Show but with CBS actually putting some fucking money into it.

McCain and Palin have been didging reporters for weeks now. They would MUCH rather talk about lipstick on pigs than the economy, specially since they're repsonsible for it.
I guess McCain didn't think he'd be treated with the proper amount of "deference."
What a coward. Drop out of race and stop embarrassing your country already.
* McCain people feared Palin would look ridiculous speaking with Katie Couric.
* Therefore, McCain -- citing the economic crisis -- "suspends" his campaign and declines to appear with David Letterman.
* McCain tries to minimize Palin's appearance by speaking with Couric...but Letterman finds out and shows the interview as it's going on. Letterman is understandably ticked off. (Given cultural impact and demographics, whose audience would you diss -- Couric's or Letterman's?)
When it comes to taking a molehill and building your own mountain, Stan and Ollie couldn't do a better job than John and Sarah.
Thanks, Dave, for pointing out the lack of clothes on this would-be emperor (and doing it in a respectful, but nonetheless biting, way).

This is why Palin can't be allowed to debate or give interviews:

So let me get this straight:
* McCain people feared Palin would look ridiculous speaking with Katie Couric.
* Therefore, McCain -- citing the economic crisis -- "suspends" his campaign and declines to appear with David Letterman.
* McCain tries to minimize Palin's appearance by speaking with Couric...but Letterman finds out and shows the interview as it's going on. Letterman is understandably ticked off. (Given cultural impact and demographics, whose audience would you diss -- Couric's or Letterman's?)
