John McCain using the "lipstick on a pig" line, except referring (directly or obliquely) to Hillary Clinton, or perhaps her campaign. (Thanks to the 23/6 guys for this.)
It's weird when Jeff tries to show he's got his finger on the pulse of politics by talking about things which the pulse itself was talking about two days ago.

Yeah, what an asshole Wells is for working 18 hours a day at a film festival and still trying to keep up on and comment on things that are important or interesting to him.
Could he be more of a douchebag? Maybe you could give him tips, Richardson....
Lets be honest. The "lipstick" issue has been a distraction and an effective one at that for the McCain campaign. Most reasonable people would say Senator Obama was not referring to Governor Palin, but simply using a phrase to get across his idea that he is the one who represents change. Do I think it was intended to be sexist? No. Do I think it was intended to belittle her? No. Do I think there are two Obama's? Yes.
When Obama stands in front of a teleprompter there are few his equal. He is polished, clear, and can hold an audience with ease. It is only when the teleprompter is removed that Obama's doppleganger, "Barry" shows up. You know the one I'm referring to. The one who says, "Um", "Ah", and "hmm" before getting out a coherent statement. The one who struggled to come up with an answer for when life began, before finally settling on it being, "above his pay grade". The one who has been dropping his "g's" at the end of his words of late. The one who has been to "57 states" and been to see the "Nittally Lions" of Penn State.
My point in all of this is that Senator Obama is merely a mouthpiece. He is a sponge who has soaked up the words of those he has learned from as well as all of the campaign professionals he has around him. When he doesn't have the teleprompter in front of him, his true self is revealed. "Senator Obama" would never have made the comment about Governor Palin, but "Barry" just couldn't help himself.
Caz - your comments might make more sense if Jeff regularly did have his finger on the pulse, but was losing his touch because he was at the festival. Since that is demonstrably untrue, what you said makes no sense at all.

Also worth pointing out: If it were that important to him to stay in touch with up-to-date current affairs, he wouldn't spend five hours watching a movie he already saw which will be released again before the end of the year. There's only so much time in the day, but a person always has time for what's "important".

Interesting how the media was compelled to surrender the news cycle to McCain's preposterous whining...I guess laughing at the claim was out of the question?
Ever since the meltdown on baby trig, I've been watching Palin's pre-announcement videos. She's pretty sharp, not a Hawkey Mawm. McCain knows full well that the jet didn't sell on ebay, and when it did, it sold for a loss. Looks like the GOP is pitching its message for the uber-stupid 62 mil W got last cycle.

I thought that Palin was the lipstick and McCain was the pig.
Although if McCain wants to be the old fish, that's his prerogative.
