Anna Faris is a good comedic actress and some of the skits last night were funny but I would have been content just to watch Poehler and Fey talk to one another for an hour and a half as Palin and Couric. I'm going to miss Poehler a lot when she departs.
It's been such a busy week, I saw the Fey/Poehler bit before I was even aware of the Palin interview. And initially I thought they were laying the cluelessness on a bit thick.
Then I caught the actual interview. It is, in the parlance of our times, scary accurate ....
From the transcript provided by CBS:
COURIC: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?
PALIN: Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our other side, the land-boundary that we have with Canada. It's funny that a comment like that was kinda made to…I don't know, you know…reporters.
COURIC: Mocked?
PALIN: Mocked, yeah I guess that's the word, mocked.
COURIC: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.
PALIN: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. And there…
COURIC: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?
PALIN: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state.

My only problem is how cute Tina Fey is as Palin, I imagine women will have the same problem with Brolin as Bush... I don't want to think that way about her.

Yep. Along similar lines, back before the 2000 election, I always thought Will Ferrell portrayed Bush as more laid back than doltish and entitled.
When the clearer-headed characters in the sketches grew exasperated with his fast-and-looseness, it made him seem fun and irreverent by comparison. I don't think it hurt Bush at all.
They need to stop slinging "adorable" around, too. Fey's portrayal is cuter than the reality.
I don't see anything adorable about the fact that of the 303 million Americans in the country, Palin is one of the four closest to sitting in the Oval Office until 2012.

What's genuinely frightening is how much of the sketch is verbatim from the actual interview!

Cadavra is right. I don't know how many people saw the Palin interview this week with so much else going on, but it was fairly accurate.

Amy sucks as Hillary and Katie. Maybe her other impressions suck too. I haven't seen them. I didn't realize Katie was a blond.
I realize it's hard to hide that massive forehead but can't she at least do voices?
