Tucker Bounds? Zounds! Where did he prep? He seems about three weeks shy of the Sixth Form. He certainly wants a better tailor. I recommend bespoke collars, at the very least. "Command military experience"? Thank God Palin has that. For a moment there, I thought we were in trouble.

The national guard thing is truly hilarious. Obama is now above 50% in the polls, if McCain's numbers continue to collapse I'm betting Palin will step down. I just find it mystifying that a professional campaign would fail to vet their VP candidate.
Someone should start a deathwatch for Palin's VP candidacy.

Even right-wing columnists are having a hard time keeping a straight face with this selection. Richard Cohen - who, 364 days a year extols the virtue of the Republican party - sums up the car crash here:
"A heartbeat away from the Presidency..."
I've lived through enough elections to notice
this much....Democrats at least take that phrase
seriously and pause to consider it (I'm not saying
their VP choices are perfect...but they seem to take a moment to ponder the "heartbeat" factor)
Republicans, on the other hand, don't give
that "heartbeat" thing a moment's thought. They
won't lose a night's sleep or blink an eye as they
nominate a VP whom you wouldn't trust to correctly stamp your paperwork at the Motor
Vehicle Bureau, let alone serve as next-in-line to
lead the free world. (Although with Cheney, they raised their standards..from gross inadaquacy to pure evil.)
McCain seems utterly wacky to me. If Palin
were a Republican Hilary Clinton - with extensive
political experience and saavy, I could understand him taking her on..even with all her excess baggage (the investigations, the pregger teen).
But she's closer in spirit to Anita Bryant than to Hilary,.......
so why in the world does McCain add on the
burden of this ridiculous Palin sideshow? Then
again, this IS the guy who's prepared to occupy
Iraq for a hundred years.
I'm well aware and deeply saddened that
because of Obama's skin color, this race will
see-saw back and forth ever so closely. And
that's tragic...because from my perspective, the
country has been offered a clear path out of the
Bush Dark Ages....and away from all the right-wing wack-jobs who've tried to turn the country
into a banana republic police state.
While we're on this subject....why do
most movie actresses become ultra-liberal while
beauty queens turn into arch-conservatives?
Once you've worn a tiara, the rest of the country's on its own......
Michael re: Cohen. He is one of those who has professed that he is "liberal" but in fact undemines that on a daily basis in his columns. Read the Washington Post daily and you'll get a taste. Here are some examples:
1. Aggressively promoted Iraq war adopting right-wing anti-French rhetoric.
2. Consistent defender of Bush and his policies.
3. Adopted rightwing mantra calling obstruction and perjury case against Libby "trivial"
4. Jumped on right-wing bandwagon against Clinton on Lewinsky affair.
5. Is a daily McCain apologist and writes in gushing terms regarding McCain.
6. Consistently adopts right-wing anti-Obama themes in his columns.
7. Journalism watchdog group Media matters described him as pro-Conservative.
Remember when Bill Clinton was running for President and all we heard from the GOP spinners was "he's a governor from a small state with no foreign policy experience"? Arkansas has a population of about 2.3 million, Alaska has a population of 670,000. Which way is it going to be, gang? Executive experience? She was running a town of a few thousand somewhere in the tundra and then ran the state of Alaska for less than two years. That's executive experience? By that count she has more "executive experience" than John McCain. It's painful to hear these clowns dance around the questions trying to put a happy face on a mind-boggling choice at best.
I was watching this live and giggling at this 12-year-old doofus too. In Tucker Bounds' world, Commander Palin was arming troops and deploying them to Iraq. Genius.
If Bounds wasn't fired after this debacle, there really is a lot wrong with the McCain organization. I think the so-called Troopergate could be the undoing of Gov. Palin. If she really did fire the Public Safety Director because he didn't fire her ex-brother-in-law, that says a lot about her character and her actions as a chief executive.

Unbelievable. A journalist asking a follow-up question and not swallowing whole bogus Republican talking points. It's about time.
