This is not a significant thing, but on an insignificant level I thought I'd report that this Choke T-shirt is the first one I've ever received in my 15-plus years of receiving free-T-shirts that I'd consider wearing, due to the fact that it's not a schlubby low-thread-count Hanes T-shirt with a dork collar but a high-thread- count one with a semi-slim European cut. Close to astonishing, given the history. Fox Searchlight will release Choke on 10.3.

I thought the novel 'Fight Club' was absolutely brilliant, and then read another 3 or 4 of Palahniuk's books and found them borderline unreadable. Torture. And this is directed by one of my least favorite character actors, Clark Gregg, a Mamet guy who is like the male Rebecca Pidgeon and gives weird, wooden line readings that never sound right.

I don't know, that silhouette of a woman's legs in high heels reminds me a lot of the mudflaps that you see white-rube truckers driving with in low-information red states.

Nice looking shirt. And hey, a literal use of the term "low-thread count"!
Have you seen the film, Jeff? I'm hoping it has the right feel. I always enjoy Sam Rockwell, but visually, the trailer looks a sterile and TV-ish - not the best fit for a Palahniuk story. I enjoyed the book - not a masterpiece, but a trim, tight, sometimes hilarious story.
Now, if only that David Fincher-Jim Carrey version of Survivor would come back from the dead...

I'd love to see a Carrey-Fincher movie but I remember hating 'Survivor' when I read it years back. Although nowhere near as bad as 'Invisible Monsters.'
And Jeff, just to echo some other folks, HE has been having some technical issues for a couple weeks now...there are only 3 posts right now, nothing below the post about the new At The Movies.

Breedlove, you are seriously wrong about Clark Gregg. You're basing your opinion on what, his 10 seconds in SPARTAN? Check out his performance in the Mamet directed episode of THE SHIELD 'Strays' or his fine sitcom work on the Julia Dreyfuss show. He was also excellent in an episode of THE WEST WING. I could understand being nervous about a first-time director, but you're absolutely dead wrong on his quality as an actor. One of the better character guys out there. It'd be like hating Tom McCarthy, who also happened to turn into a damn fine filmmaker.

with all due respect, it's a 'california basics' shirt made in bangladesh (and carried at target btw)and nowhere near the quality of a high end hanes....and i wish they hadn't printed the tag line 'the safe word is poodle' on the back...
i will say though, this is the first time a movie has ever sent me a string of ben-wa balls as swag....

Well, to each his own, whether it's Invisible Monsters or Clark Gregg. Burma, I'm generally a fan of the Mamet posse, but he has struck me as a bit wooden, a bit boring, rote...I don't remember him in Spartan but I didn't think he did much with his roles in West Wing or In Good Company. Good character actors need that chameleon aspect, which he lacks. He's the same in everything. Haven't seen the sit com.

I cannot believe you actually used "thread-count". Actually made me laugh out loud. I hope that was a bit of self-aware humor.
Oh and I believe "semi-slim European cut" is actually called "athletic fit"... to those of us that still shop at Target anyway.

The trailers do have a TV-ish feeling to them. The material and the director doesn't seem to mesh....maybe it'll work.
I find the green banded trailer to be more effective than the red banded trailer, mainly because of the call back with the stripper.
-possible spoiler-
I wonder how the cloned from Jesus' foreskin storyline is going to play to masses.

Jeff, are you going to wear this "semi-slim european cut" t-shirt and try to get into Hyde tonight?
Seriously dude, give the t-shirt to your son! This shirt is not for you! I don't know if you're in your '40's (no way) or 50's, but the cool approach would be to make some kind of stylish concession to your age and stick to more dignified clothes, like high-thread-count, well-tailored dress shirts that make everyone else look like a slob. Ya know what I mean? I bet you own a few already. Buy some more!

I always thought John C. Reily would be best for the lead in Survivor.
As far as Choke is concerned, the movie;s not bad. Rockwell is interesting to watch, and the guy that plays his friend was really funny. The only thing is, the movie falls apart in the last third, not really knowing where it wants to go. It's still worth checking out, though.

What's the last novel (of the non-graphic variety) you've read, D.Z.?
The reason I ask is that I don't think I've ever seen you mention a book or an author, in any context. I've also never heard you talk about food that isn't fast.
Hey, it's a thread-count thread, so it's relevant.

Seriously? You piss and moan everyday about the state of the country under Bush and then you whine about free t-shirts that don't have a semi-slim, European cut? What in Sam Hell is a semi-slim, European cut?! Even if you were being sarcastic, this is seriously lame. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the Gulf Coast who would just love to hear you blather on about the free t-shirts that just aren't up to your usual high standards.
