This TV trailer of Oliver Stone's W. (Lionsgate, 10.17) is the wildest yet. Brolin's performance as our current sitting president, it would appear, treads the line between realism and satire like a mountain goat. You can't tell from short cuts, but it's feeling more and more to me like a dry-but-extreme Peter Sellers performance in Lolita and Dr. Strangelove.

Bush's head hitting the desk at the end of that clip is eerily reminiscent of the head of that tapir or whatever it was hitting the ground when Moonwatcher hits it over the head with the bone in the The Dawn of Man scene in 2001.

This seems like the time to pitch my Obama opus called "The Hope of Audacity: America gets the Big O she deserves!"
It's an American success story, with brave Barry overcoming the racists at every step of the way!
Starring:
Chris Tucker as "Barack Obama"
Tyler Perry as "Michelle Obama"
Gilbert Gottfried as "Joe Biden"
Tyler Perry as "Hillary Clinton"
Featuring:
Dennis Farina as "Anthony (Buckets o' Cash) Rezko"
Nick Nolte as "Bill (The Bomber) Ayers"
Jim Varney and Polly Holliday as "Bitter Gun Clinger and Bitter Bible Clinger"
With special appearances by:
Barbara Streisand, Lindsey Lohan, Margaret Cho, and Sarah Bernhardt as "The Muses --- Faith, Hope, Charity, and Tiffani."
Since my script is based on those fine, balanced, and unpartisan books "Obama Nation" and "The Case Against Barack Obama," you can be guaranteed my film will walk the fine balance between satire and slander with the grace of a ballerina on crystal meth.
I tell ya, it'll kill.

Nice use of "Once in a Lifetime." Catches the flavor of what I'm expecting this to be — Nixon meets Natural Born Killers.
Also, I'm tired of lazy journalists talking about this as the third in Stone's supposed trilogy of presidential films, JFK and Nixon being the others. JFK wasn't about JFK, it was a murder mystery; it was The Jim Garrison Story. If anything, this is the third in Stone's trilogy of films about embattled leaders, Nixon and Alexander being the others.

griff, were you also behind the rewrites for "An American Carol"?
call me perverse, but i always enjoy the failed attempts at humor. the more hamfisted and unfunny, the better. which is why i like a lot of oliver stone's crap, and why i enjoyed your post.
the great part is, you probably edited that to punch it up a bit. make it even funnier.
seriously dude, you should submit that shit to the national review humor contest. ann coulter can't win every year.

hey griff, let your inner artist out already. you're better than all them hollywood libs, with their precision of language and dedication to craft and priuses.
hell, i'm sure you've taken dumps that have more aesthetic heft than anything sean penn's done. "offset this, spicoli!" is something I can imagine you saying.
why don't you give us those stories you've buried deep inside of you?
like that one about the dude who is sick of all the people in this world who are getting ahead of him, and he finally takes his sweet, beautiful, glorious revenge? or the one about the insurance adjuster who singlehandedly subdues an al qaeda cell? those would be so great to read online, or maybe comic book is the way to go? your call.
your work speaks to the disaffected. you rage against the machine. well, not exactly against the machine, but totally alongside of it.
power to the people. the people want more.

Once in a Lifetime is one of those overplayed songs I never get sick of, and it is perfect for this trailer.

Griff, the real fundamental questions of politics or reality aside, your suggestion just doesn't sound funny. I mean Chris Tucker would have to give one of the best comedic performances ever put on film in order to compare to someone with a Texan accent (or any accent really) reading choice quotes from Bush.

Burma, I get that feeling as well....with his work in W. and Milk, he'll probably land something...assuming he delivers in the actual films as much as he does in the trailers...

The only way Chris Tucker would be in it is if you changed his character's name from "Barack" to "Carter", replaced Gilbert Gotfried with Jackie Chan, made them both cops, put Brett Ratter behind the camera, and watched the magic happen.

"World Trade Center" was the last good Oliver Stone movie, then "Alexander" after that, then "Any Given Sunday" after that!!!!!! U-Turn was an awful mess though.
