Andy, Opie, Fonzie

An inspired Barack Obama endorsement piece by the stars of The Andy Grifith Show and Happy Days -- Ron Howard, Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler. A brilliant piece, whoever dreamt it up and directed. (Original link on Funny or Die.)

Note: I haven't used the word "Opie" to refer to Howard in many, many years, and I won't henceforth ever again, but I figured it was okay in this context.

I'll say this...if any celebrity could influence my vote, it would be Andy Griffith.

I thought that was truly wonderful. My hat and my hair are off to Howard, Griffith and Winkler. "Limousine-liberal-commie-pinko-death-to-AmeriKKKa Hollywood, " yeah, yeah, fucking yeah. Fuck you, assholes. This was something else.

I'm surprised they kept his Richie Cunningham wig all these years.

Certainly effective. Nice touch with Winkler stumbling over "wrong"

Wow. Now I forgive him for A Beautiful Mind. And was that a tripped-out version of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man" playing the background? Opie may be more subtle than I realized.

Well, at least he'll be one of the ones funding all of Obama's programs. If that's what he wants, so be it. I respect that more than the "give me! give me! i want pie!" crowd.

The background song's a riff Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island," and I laughed out loud when I heard it in the background. Not because it's subtle in any way (though maybe they used it ironically...?), but because it's so beautifully evocative of the early 90s.

I hope Danny DeVito still drives around listening to this music. Wuh-wait a minute!

Yeah, the song is "Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)" by US3, from 1993.

Isn't Howard supposed to be a Red State icon?
