I hope that Watchmen lawsuit forces FOX and WB to resolve their legal wrangling over the home video rights to this show...Thought it could probably end up exacerbating the issue.
Uhhhg... Wells, will you PLEASE use your almighty powers to ban D.Z. His random thought process stopped being entertaining a long time ago.
Getting to the topic.... Wells, was this video suggested to you or did you find it on your own? If so, you scored major points for being "hip" with me. Love it. Shows that times have not changed and that the American public does not learn or has little memory of the past.
Actually, D.Z.'s comment isn't random at all. Fox produced the 60's Batman show, but Warners owns the rights to Batman now. They've been in a snit for years over release of the show to home video. The right to release the show could be used as a bargaining chip in the Watchmen dustup. Kind of like how Disney got the rights to Oswald back from Universal/NBC when they released Al Michaels from his Monday Night Football contract.
Obama? McCain? I'd vote for Burgess Meredith right now.
I can't figure out if Batman is a Republican or Democrat. On one hand, he's running a giant corporation and looking for tax breaks. He probably got abused on the inheritance tax. On the other hand, his carbon footprint is gigantic with that gas guzzling Batmobile and I'm sure he favors domestic partnerships.
Thanks Jeff. I'll be showing that clip to all my firiends that, like me, are Obama supporters. I too would like to see Fox and Warner come to an agreement and release this show on dvd.
On another note, I see readers on HE defending D.Z and hear that O.J. was convicted on all counts and is looking at life in prison. What alternative universe did I wake up in?
Is is really possible that sometime after his sentencing on December 5th he might hear the immortal words: "Hey, anybody else want to fuck O.J up the ass?"
Mr Wells, how about opening up a thread on the O.J. conviction? I, for one, would like to hear what some of the usual suspects of H.E think. Or are we all bored with this topic?
Actually, MDOC, it's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure the 60s TV Batmobile was nuclear powered. I think that big nuclear pile in the background of that Batcave was designated the Batmobile power source by one of those kitschy signs. And when they got ready to take off in the early episodes, Robin would say, "Atomic batteries to power, turbines to speed."
Now, how that explains the flames coming out the back, I don't know. Perhaps it was nuclear waste, which raises a whole new set of questions.
B - You're dead on about Batman Returns. In a weird way, it's story was way ahead of its time. The Penguins whole arc is that of a completely substance-less freak, using the strength of his biographical narrative, riding a wave of sympathy and naivety to political power. Next time you watch it, pay attention to the speech The Penguin gives as Wayne and Alfred are preparing to mess with his sound system. It's absolute gibberish, full of political cliches and empty rhetoric. I've always found it hysterical.

That's great. Except who's the Republican and who's the Democrat?

Ditto on that -- he's one of my all-time favorite character actors.

The one with the top hat and monocle is the Republican. ;-)

1. That was hilarious. I just read a memoir-essay from one of that series' creators that was really good; anyone else remember where to find it?
2. Batman does this exact same thing ti Penguin in Batman Returns.

A - here is the article I think you were referring to. It's the link in the very first sentence of the article.
