"Gov. Sarah Palin, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, McCain spokesperson Nancy Pfotenhauer and Rush Limbaugh have revealed that there is a measurable portion of this country that is not interested in that which the vast majority view as democracy or equality or opportunity. They want only control and they want the rest of us, symbolically, perhaps physically out.
"'We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington D.C.,' Gov. Palin told a fund-raiser in North Carolina last Thursday, to kick off this orgy of condescending elitism. 'We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation.'
"Governor, your prejudice is overwhelming. It is not just 'pockets' of this country that are 'pro-America' Governor. America is 'pro-America.' And the 'Real America' of yours, Governor, is where people at your rallies shout threats of violence, against other Americans, and you say nothing about them or to them."

Preach on brotha. But really can he lose the good night and good luck spiel? Enough with that.

I agree with sugar3 ... he needs to stop with that sign-off. I also wouldn't mind if he toned down the blustery, overly-dramatic phrasing. Issues like this are infuriating, but the wordiness and ranting only make him seem like a crackpot.

I find it hilarious how Olberman has turned into his own arch-nemesis Bill O'Reilly. Once Obama wins the transformation will be complete.

I'd like to see Limbaugh address the hypothesis the Joe Lieberman crossed the aisle because McCain is white. Or, more bluntly, because Obama is not.

I've been watching a lot of Fox News because I'm fascinated with the level of mean that they spew. My brain hurts at this point and Oberman is a good antidote to the station that promotes pure fear.....

I bet Palin would call most of California un-pro-american (whatever the fuck that means) even though this state has more troops in Iraq than any other. My point: the bitch doesn't know what she's talking about.

Tonight of all nights when addressing the ravings of Rep Bachmann, his sign was beyond perfect. There is no better sign-off for a Mccarthy clone than Murrow's best.

You can't win with a country that doesn't even know its own name. First of all, it's the United States of America, not America. Hell, your whole continent is called NORTH America and the USA is only part of that. Maybe that's just semantics, but it also reflects a deep arrogance, indifference, and even hostility to the countries that surround the USA.
Even in this era of obsession about pro and anti-Americanism, does anyone really know what America means? To people like Palin, it sounds like America is synonymous with "whatever I like." If you like eating pizza 7 days a week, watching football, condemning minorities, and shooting animals... well, that's what America is apparently. And if anyone else lives differently, screw 'em, whether they're American or not! This is the most demented, selfish, lazy, and cowardly interpretation of patriotism anyone's ever been allowed to get away with on a large scale. Pretty sickening stuff. But at least Palin and Republican pundits are putting this view forth for strategic purposes. It's really depressing when an everyday American actually believes all this for no other reason than they're too stupid and prejudiced to see the absurdity of it.

This sounds like the precise converse of one of Jeffrey's anti-red state rants.

Why exactly does Olbermann think Palin has a responsibility to "say something" to these people when they're (allegedly) saying it when she's not there? But Obama himself can say "get in their faces" and that's not an incitement to violence. Hypocracy, thy name is Olbermann!

Olbermann can be a pompous wind-bag, but what he says here has absolutely no objectionable idiosyncracies. After hearing it, I sent a ton of money to Elwyn Tinklenberg, and I hope it helps. A certain portion of it, I admit, was for having the balls to run for office with the name Elwyn Tinklenberg.
SaveFarris: What is "hypocracy"? I'm not clever enough to get it. I can merely reach up for it, but it eludes my grasp. When you coin a new word, please indicate to us dullards what you mean. Thanks.
