Toy Story/Toy Story 2
This College Humor-produced trailer, an impression of a Disney film about an Alaskan hockey mom who becomes Vice President "in the wackiest family comedy of the year," went up on 9.25. But the embedded YouTube version only became available today. The piece was inspired by Matt Damon's quote about Sarah Palin's candidacy being something out of a Disney film, or words to that effect.

McCain giving up on Michigan. Wow. I'm afraid to jinx myself, but it really is looking like Obama is starting to lock in a victory. At the very least, it does seem like much more than ever this race is Obama's to lose.
And McCain is getting grumpier and more bitter by the minute. His commentary to the Des Moines Register was ridiculous on its face and his claim to have always told "100% absolute truth" is getting BLASTED by the media. I'm almost starting to feel bad for the guy.

It's more like a Goldie Hawn picture, PROTOCOL maybe. But Goldie is cuter and smarter.

That was about 20% as funny as it should have been. Anyone else notice that "Head of Skate" was written by Albert Speer and directed by Julius Streicher? Gee, how clever.

Yeah, the video was weak. I have yet to see anything nearly as good as the Tina Fey stuff. She's the gold standard.

I dunno...I think the fact that it's not funny enough is what makes it work. It's so cheesy as to achieve verisimilitude. The word "absurd" as Matt Damon said is fully in play.

This gets better on repeat viewings. I love the little corny touches--the look on the kid's face as he goes "Whoa!," the way Palin sticks her tongue under her lip for cute effect after making the Bin Laden line, the guy who's chewing on something as he tells her McCain is dead... It's the rare mock-trailer that really looks and feels like a bad trailer, so hats off to 'em.

Not soon enough. End of the month. It does seem lately though that if you watch NBC for more than 30 minutes you'll probably see Tina Fey in something.

Anyone else think the "Sarah Palin" come across less like a WASPy hockey mom from Alaska and more like a Jewish soccer mom from Jersey?

I should probably stay on my toes with this one, even if I'm more likely to dismiss it...

On one level it's almost tantamount to having Marge Gunderson nominated for V.P.
But in spirit I feel like Palin hedges much closer to Kitty Farmer (a.k.a. Beth Grant's shrill WASP from Donnie Darko).

Just one more comment on this - I don't think they're really attempting to do Palin here, per se. I think it's more of a riff on the concept of a bad movie with the hockey-mom-turned-President conceit.

If that's the case, Jack, then I think someone needs to fully investigate her commitment to Sparkle Motion.
