Hot Blood

Fandango's Harry Medved has sent out a release about vigorous advance ticket sales for Twilight (Summit, 11.21). According to a "current Fandango survey of over 5000 moviegoers interested in buying Twilight tickets," (a) 95% of the respondents are female, and roughly 58% of these are under-25; (b) 92% of respondents say they'll see Twilight on opening weekend (duhhh), and (c) 85% say they plan to see the film more than once. Can you imagine sitting next to a group of under-25 women who've just seen Twilight in a bar after they've all had two glasses of wine? The giggling, the shrieking...good God.

I think "Under 25" means WELL under 25. I don't think they'll be going to bars between viewings.

Twilight seriously looks like total crap, very Lifetime-ish.

Harry Medved, author of THE FIFTY WORST FILMS OF ALL TIME? Looks like he has a candidate for 51.

The problem with that FIFTY WORST FILMS OF ALL TIME book is that there are some good movies on it (like BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA) and some interesting failures (like ZABRISKIE POINT). Worth a look, though. I read it in high school and loved it. Taught me a lot. The chapter on GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER is hilarious.

One loses their credibility INSTANTLY by placing Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia on any "worst film" list. That's just a joke.

And Wells -- you've banned plenty of people from this site -- do everyone a favor and just get rid of p.Vice. the useless negativity is starting to be a real nuisance.

Hopefully, this will be like the teen girl's Star Trek (as opposed to Star Wars): all the fans see it on the invariably massive opening weekend and it disappears without a ripple within a month.

I've said it before, I'll say it again:

55 MIL opening day, 125 mil opening weekend, 1.25 BILLION domestic total.

BANK ON IT.

This thing is going to be so huge, you can't even comprehend.

And KRISTEN STEWART = about to be the biggest thing in movies. Brando x Scarlett Johansson x Monroe x Dean x Witherspoon x Cruise = K-STEW.

And FREDDIE PRINZE = about to the biggest thing in movies. Brando x Clift x Mineo x Dean x Montalban x Llamas x Danza x DeNiro x Pacino = F-RINZE JR.

Lex -- I love your enthusiasm. But NO WAY will it do $55 million opening day. Opening weekend -- that might happen. I could see Twilight mirror the performance of Sex and The City.

The IMDB message board for TWILIGHT gets a new post nearly every few seconds. This is maybe the most anticipated film in the entire history of cinema-- there is MANIA for this thing way above maybe even Dark Knight or Star Wars. We are looking at a TITANIC-like phenomenon where young girls will literally go to see this movie 20 and 30 times in theaters.

55 MIL DAY, 125 MIL WEEKEND, 1.25 BIL DOMESTIC GROSS.

I cannot believe how unprepared most prognosticators are for this JUGGERNAUT.

BIGGEST MOVIE EVER.
