Drool
The Girl on the Train
An "editor friend" recently sent Variety's Anne Thompson a note about from the first long-lead screening of Sam Mendes' Revolutionary Road: "The word from me is wow!....very powerful," the guys starts off.
"[It's a] two-hander for Leo and Kate, all grown up now as a married couple, unhappy but still in love. They go at it fiercely and you can sense the real-life bond that lets them really go for it, all defenses down.
"It's powerful and also beautifully written and filmed. [American Beauty director] Sam Mendes doing suburban angst again, but this time in the 1950s. I daresay it may be a modern classic. The screenplay race this year is unusually light on adaptations, so this being an adaptation of the Richard Yates novel, I'd look for a nomination."

I am really looking forward to seeing this. We'll see if it's actually a "modern classic" but I'm expecting something of quality.
Deakins shot it so that's always a plus. I also notice that he shot Doubt as well. Is it finally his year to win?

This hyperbole sounds like plant city USA. If you don't have the balls to go on record, then shut the fuck up.

For once, I actually agree with p.Vice, but there is too much talent behind this movie for me to think it will be anything short of great (or at least very, very good). If you aren't willing to state your name, then wait till you are ready to do so.
Plant-y sounding stuff like this belongs over at AICN. Though if Wells knows the person, I assume it's legit.
Revolutionary Road has lots going for it. Fantastic source material, a strong, confident director, the best cinematographer currently shooting, and two of the best actors of their generation. This better be a damn fine film.

What gets me is that anyone could have said it whether they saw the thing or not. "Editor friend," probably means Peter Bart, I'm guessing.

the preview took my breath away. Another movie that looks amazing is "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"....

Yeah, but he's married to Kate Winslet so he's a lucky hack.
