I posted my first story/item about Barack Obama during the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, or roughly 21 months ago. Today, in any event, marks the beginning of the final week of '08 Presidential campaign. Eight and a half days from now, all present-tense anxieties will be stilled and we'll all start to feel a huge depressing shift in the current.
It's probably unrealistic to hope for 60 Democratic U.S. Senators once the dust has settled, but it'll be beautiful if it happens. An FDR-like New Deal overhaul of priorities would be possible. The next step would be to go out and really do something about the right-wing crazies once and for all. If I could exterminate the lot of them by clapping my hands three times, I would clap my hands three times. No, that's going too far. I didn't mean that. What if the worst of them could be forcibly relocated to Alaska? Then they could all get together and eventually secede with Palin leading the charge and running the show. That wouldn't be a bad thing at all. It really wouldn't.

We were on track to not only get 60, but maybe 61 (meaning, Lieberman can get tossed under the bus too), but now stories like this one out of Georgia where 50,000 were "mistakenly" purged from voting rolls with ONE WEEK to correct it.

I give great kudos and thanks to Jeffrey Wells for making me pay some attention to Obama way back when. And then, WOW!
Yesterday I was at the Obama rally with more than 100,000 others in Denver. I tell ya, just walking up there (after a bus trip) I got tears in my eyes thinking what an amazing thing it will be if he wins. Not that our problems will be magically solved, but what a statement! The rally was huge loads of fun and beauty.
I think Americans just wanted somebody decent for president, after these eight years of other than that. And now we may not only get somebody actually decent, but a genius in the bargain. And I must say that we probably seriously undervalue the worth of being seen by the rest of the world as a better people than we have been. And if Barack Obama wins, we certainly will be.

I'm also not on board with extermination and forcible relocation, but in the wake of the Hudson tragedy, I'd be happy if the Dems find their balls and finally stand up to those bastards at the NRA who keep enabling tragedies like this one.

You think a guy who's willing to kill is gonna let a gun ban stop them? Chicago ALREADY has a ban on handguns. Did that stop this guy? Why would you think any adding any additional regulations stop him?
Bad guys get their hands on guns no matter what laws you pass. That's what makes them bad guys in the first place. Enacting restrictive gun rights only prevents the good guys from being able to defend themselves.

Jeff: That recent Stevens conviction should help us get that magical number.
Farris: "Glad to see Wells has shifted from enacting a Conservative Holocaust ... to merely forcing Conservatives into Concentration camps."
Well, your party likes doing the same to Arabs in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, so...
"You think a guy who's willing to kill is gonna let a gun ban stop them?"
It's stopped quite a few people in Japan and Europe.
"Chicago ALREADY has a ban on handguns."
And did you notice that the last significant shooting was in Arkansas?
"Did that stop this guy?"
It stopped her ex-husband, so it's a start.
"Enacting restrictive gun rights only prevents the good guys from being able to defend themselves."
If it keeps them from defending themselves from their psychoses, then I'm all for it.

Jeffrey
Search your archives, I could have sworn that you commented on Obama's 2004 democratic convention speech. Anyway, your postings really were the first things that drew my attention to him (missed his speech in '04). I think you predicted this longer ago.

What? We don't want Alaska anymore? If we followed Jeff's suggestion, the U.S. would be giving up Alaskan Oil, ANWR, and sacrificing it's claim to the Arctic Sea (which thanks to the melting ice caps will be the new major trade and exploration route under international contention.)

uh, except, Jeff, you're a right-wing crazy. You hate the lower and middle classes, are a misogynist and a bigot, and regularly fantasize about purging the world of people who have alternate views. Oh, oh, you care about polar bears and are voting for a black man, so I guess that makes you progressive...
