"It's really important to tell people to go out and see W. so they can talk about it and have an opinion about it and this freedom of speech, of course, that allows us to go and talk about a film about a current sitting president." -- Ben Lyons speaking on Sneak Previews, according to Erik Childress's efilmcritc.com. The quote results in Childress calling Lyons "the Sarah Palin of film criticism."

What does "and this freedom of speech . . ." have to do with the rest of the sentence? He's like, I mean, you know, a cretin.

Lyons' movie knowledge is about equal to the idiots who go to the movies to talk to each other and text their friends.

I think I only watched the first two episodes of the new show, and then gave up. It really should just be moved to "E" - that's where it belongs. I used to watch Ebert/Roeper religiously, even after Ebert had been gone awhile. I always thought Roeper was kind of a wimp, but Lyons makes him look like Pauline Kael at her most lacerating. So much for having at least one reliable film program on network TV.....(sigh).

I just read the linked article. My favorite part was when he does the steering wheel gesture.
Now THAT'S showmanship. We need more critics who do charades.

Calling Ben Lyons "the Sarah Palin of film criticism" is a fucking insult to Sarah Palin, and I hope the bitch gets on the wrong side of a family of caribou after her and McCain are bitchslapped worse than Reagan gave it to Mondale.

Ben Lyons is too much of a joke to get upset about. He'll be hosting EXTRA! with Mary Hart's clone soon enough.
Just spill some for The Balcony, and move on...

The dumbest thing I've seen yet is him saying "I'm from New York, there aren't cops like that" in regards to Farrell in PRIDE & GLORY. When exactly did little Ben come into contact with the police, when his dad and Medved would fight?

I've watched a few of the shows, and Lyons is for film criticism what Chris Paolini is for literature, what Sanjaya is for music, and what Tiffany is for Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling.
I don't need Lyons to tell me Clint Eastwood is an amazing director. Ben Mankiewicz looks like he's biting hi

I am a little bummed, because I was gonna call Mira the Sarah Palin of film criticism and now it's taken.
You know, proudly ignorant and unqualified, puts his foot in it every chance he gets, and then shoves it deeper when given the chance to elaborate. Blames his critics for giving him a hard time. Refuses to actually make the effort to improve.
But I'm not sure Mira qualifies as a critic, and Lyons is much higher profile, so he gets the tiara.
