Boom

After predicting a weekend gross between $35 and $38 million on 10.22, Fantasy Moguls' Steve Mason is now reporting a projected 3-day haul in the region of $55 million for High School Musical 3. Saw V is looking at $29 million, give or take. Gavin O'Connor's Pride and Glory is looking at $6 million.

What I'd like to see is a combination of the top two movies, with SAW star Tobin Bell singing a ditty called "Make Your Choice" as HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL's Zac Efron is ripped apart on one of Jigsaw's contraptions. SAW VI: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. Think about it.

Seeing W. tomorrow. Hopefully Pride and Glory after it.

I saw Rachel Getting Married last night. A small masterpiece for Demme.

You do realize that that Saw/HSM joke that people have been throwing around is really funny because that movie actually exists. it's called REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA.

W bombing even bigger than the actual W administration? All this despite the ultra-annoying ads on this site that warranted about 10 pro-W stories?

Halloween 2009: Saw VI.

I find it depressing that a big screen version of a crappy TV movie and the latest in a long line of torture porn movie does boffo business, but movies like Body of Lies and W. can't do it. It makes me sick.

PRIDE AND GLORY, I liked quite a bit. Little surprised how low the Tomatometer is; It's a little uneven but Norton, Farrell, Voight, and JOHN ORITZ are all in good form. And one of those rare times where Noah Emmerich more than holds his own. Kind of gets off to a slow start, but I got fairly wrapped up in it, despite some melodrama in that Haggisy riot toward the end.

Why do print crix always get running times wrong? Every review around seems to list P&G as 125 minutes, when I stopwatched that shit at around 131. Do critics actually time that stuff, or do they go with what they're given?

HSM looks like some wack shit, but HUDGENS, OH YES. SHE IS THE HOTNESS.

Zachary: W. did well when it was Farenheit 9/11. No real point to it now. And why bother with Body of Lies, when people just saw Bourne 3 last year? Saw V made money, because it came out at the right time of the year. HSM 3 makes money, because, like that chihuahua flick, it provides a positive getaway for an audience which might need it right now. If it makes you feel better, though, Religulous is a hit, while An American Carol is a bomb. The lesson learned here? Sell a film which the target audience hasn't seen already, or which has an ideal release date, or which doesn't just cover old news, and the audience will bite.

HUGE differences between Body of Lies and Bourne 3, as well as W. and Farenheit 9/11. Huge differences.
