"There's never a doubt that the losers-at-love of British writer-director Joel Hopkins' Last Chance Harvey are on intersecting arcs, that they'll meet cute and stroll off into a sooty London sunset. But stars Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson (reunited after 2006's Stranger Than Fiction) are so disarmingly charming that even the most treacly moments work an emotional magic.

"Auds may skew a bit older for the Overture Films release, but the hardest cases will be moved and tell their friends. Some couples just look good together. Thompson and Hoffman look like an exclamation point walking a hedgehog. The physical incompatibility gives them added personality, but it also emphasizes the innate awkwardness that has found their characters alone at middle age." -- from John Anderson's 9.11 Variety review.

I think Thompson and Hoffman are terrific actors but I'm not sure I would call Hoffman middle age, the man is in his seventies and 22 yrs Thompson's senior. Isn't this nearly the same as calling Obama and McCain contemporaries? I know this is standard protocall in Hollywood, but Hoffman, Nicholson and that seventies group are all senior citizens now. In addition to the age disparity, they do look like an odd match physically. Hope the movie turns out to be good either way.

Celeb, you got that backwards. In Hollywood-speak, Thompson is ancient and Hoffman is middle-aged.

The part I picked up on was, "Hoffman makes the most of everything he's given in Hopkins' script, mining laughs from even the least obvious places." So, I don't see an Oscar here for him.

The trailer is charming and moving. Use of Badly Drawn Boy's "The Shining" helps alot. Hope the movie's good!

Since when is Hoffmann "middle-aged"? He's middle-aged only if he is a carbon 14 molecule.

Now, now, the half-life of carbon 14 is 5,730 years. Hoffman doesn't look a day over 2,000.

It's a movie, people. He's playing middle aged. You'd look 20 years younger too if you had his plastic surgery.
