New York's "Vulture" guys have offered 28 reasons why Twilight the movie is better than Twilight the book[s]. In other words, one of the most hardboiled, cynical-minded, showbiz-covering blog teams in the western hemisphere likes it also. See what's happening here?

Twilight is becoming the new Rocky Horror Picture Show?
(Don't worry, Jeff, I don't think they were serious)

I love the books. I love the cast. I love the director, I can't believe I have to wait two weeks before I get to see Twilight, it isn't even fair.

To reference another movie that was better than its source, It's The Bridges of Madison County for tweens. (Not that I've read, or plan to see, Twilight.)

Reasons why the film is better than the (apparently horribly written and constructed) book does not equal reasons why the film is actually any good.
And the whooshing sound the vampires make when they"jump" would make me laugh out loud, much to the irritation of enthralled post-pubescent girls everywhere.

Having seen the film twice now (once at a critic's screening, and then again Thursday night when I had to take my tween-Twilight-fanatic daughter and her friends to the Very! First! Screening! so they would not die of disappointment) I can say this much: The film was much more entertaining when seen with a packed theater of squealing young chick fans than with a theater filled with grumpy, old male film critics who had no idea what this Twilight thing was at all, but had been told by some editor they needed to get into the screening.

For added fun, position yourself near a particularly crazed fan like the one I had behind me, who, every single time Edward or Jacob appeared on screen, loudly screamed "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!!" and then started hyperventilating. It drowns out the derisive laughter from the fathers and boyfriends who were dragged to the screening by their Twilight fanatics.

For what it's worth, I think the film is decently good -- disclaimer: for what it is -- and Twilight fans seem largely pleased. Personally, I found it a vast improvement over the book, if only because the endless pages of Meyer droning on and on about Edward's physical perfection, gorgeous hair, magical breath and sparkling skin had to be eliminated due to the time constraints of the film. And Stewart, actually, is quite good and carries the film. Without her, the film would be far less tolerable.
