As much as I love and cherish Bottle Rocket, shelling out an admittedly reasonable $26 and change for a Criterion Blu-ray version doesn't seem all that vital. It's not like it's renowned for its shattering, eye-melting visions of Dallas, Fort Worth and Hillsboro, Texas. Although I'll probably spring for it anyway because of my Blu-ray heroin habit, which requires a fresh new experience every week or so.

The way I look at it, Amazon has the Blu-ray for $8 cheaper than the DVD and if you are going to buy it may as well go Blu. Dazzling visuals or not.

Yeah, I mean, really, all you really get for that cash is, what, the unique, endlessly amusing and amazingly assured debut by one of the more talented directors around. Plus scads of extras.

I just watched this BOTTLE ROCKET blu-ray through Blockbuster Online, looks solid although I noticed considerable noise and softness on close-ups. Great movie, though -- It was the first time I'd seen it...

By the way, in the Hinckley Robbery Scene at the end, one of the workers who gets leaned against the wall by Owen Wilson and his yellow jumpsuit is holding a "ZuZu" cup -- one of the best hole-in-the-wall mexican resteraunts in Dallas...

When did Mr. Wells get a Blu-ray player? Did I miss something? The last I recall he was agonizing about buying one, even though it's precisely in order for his job, is a decent tax write-off, etc.
Could we get the specs on your player and your TV, please?

I know I'm opening myself up to criticism here...but I've always been rather bored by Bottle Rocket. I remember feeling that way when I first saw it in the theater (how long ago was that, Jesus, well more than ten years?) and subsequent viewings have never changed that initial impression. Am I the only one who feels this way?

The thing about Bottle Rocket is that I never thought it would be significantly better on a big screen until I actually saw it on one. It's really much more visually interesting than one would think.

Many years ago, I purchased Bottle Rocket when it was released on Laserdisc. A friend wondered why I wasted my money buying that movie on laser. "It's like bronzing a turd," he said. At the time, I vehemently disagreed with him, but Darjeeling so soured me on Anderson that I no longer own anything he's made, on any format.
