Myself to HE tech guy: "We really need to dump Typkey and replace it with something better, or install something better alongside it as an option that will allow people to post comments without all this horseshit. For too many readers Typekey is nothing but grief, grief, grief." HE tech guy response: "Yesterday I suggested OpenID as an alternative. Are you happy with going with that?" Me back: "Uhhm, no. OpenID is free software so there must be problems! I don't trust anything that's free. You get what you pay for. It could also provide a back-door portal of some kind for hackers. Isn't there something secure and solid that we can purchase and easily install? Something that works...no muss or fuss?"

Typekey is far shittier on Poland's blog than it is here. But I appreciate that you're not sharing his poor-us rant for possibly switching to something simpler.

I'll second what scooterzz said. Really, I wouldn't pick anything besides Wordpress when it comes to blogging platforms. It's open source, so there is a mind blowing array of add ons and extras both free and premium. Free does not mean bad when it comes to wordpress, believe me.

I'm a web professional, and, work on a site that uses a paid-for platform. We painfully regret the choice. Many free open-source platforms are far better supported and have more options for expansion and community-building.
WordPress is highly recommended to me by peers I trust. And you can extend its built-in comments capabilities with something like this: http://disqus.com/
I'm eager for your switch. Typekey has been very unfriendly to my Mac browser and has often flaked out and diminished my participation on the site...
Many hacks occur when people install the generic installation and don't change a single detail or make any effort - tell your web guy to rename some of the common directories or file names, etc. and you'll be protected.
(BTW - I had to launch a second browser to post this, my first browser flaked out and failed to post the message)

i have little problem w/ typekey at this site. what is bothersome, however, is that it's not mobile friendly. Windows Mobile at least hates it and crashes my phone every time i try to load HE.

Wordpress is a good alternative. But I've never had a Typekey problem here. (Is it because I run Safari on my Mac?)

Wells, there are a number of free, open source software packages out there that prove your "You get what you pay for" crap. Ever heard of Firefox? Apache? To be a little more esoteric, Asterisk? These are all arguably the best software of their type available, free or not. And, without doubt, WordPress belongs on this list.

All: Please raise your hand and say 'Oy' if 'Wordpress' should be Jeff's go-to program.
Jeff: I agree with the others who say free isnt bad especially because techies keep trying to make it better.
I love Firefox 100 times more than IE.
RIP Typekey

Wordpress is the only blog software worth a damn.
These guys doing open source software create the best stuff because they're totally into making it better and better -- it's insulting and ignorant to assume that OS is lame because it's free, lol. Quite the opposite is true -- you just have to know where to look.

I was one of those who had no problem with TypeKey, until a couple of days ago, when I tried three times to post in the "Black List" thread, and while it says there are at least 10 comments, when you click on "comments," it only showed five. So not only did I triple post, they didn't even show it!
As far as WordPress goes, I am not as computer tech savvy as the others here, so I defer to their judgement.

Count me in as an "Oy". WordPress is The One of blogging. Totally customizable, excellent support, plenty of plugins - including security add-ons - and total comment flexibility, especially with the upcoming new release. BECOME ONE OF US, WELLS.
