Last night Vice-President-elect Joe Biden told Larry King that he felt "somewhat badly" for President Bush, and that he feels that "the incident in Iraq was unfortunate, that guy throwing the shoes...it was just, it was just uncalled for ." But it was called for. It was absolutely called for and then some. This is why Muntadhar al-Zeidi's rude and intemperate act triggered such a huge reaction worldwide. Because of a consensus that there was enormous justification for what he did.
As I wrote on 12.15.08, al-Zeidi "has articulated a popular rage in the same way Peter Finch 's Howard Beale did in Network. Throwing those shoes was an act of civil disobedience no different than Boston patriots throwing tea into the harbor. Al-Zeidi did an impolite thing, but he didn't use a weapon or hurt anyone and said what an awful lot of people (myself included) feel."

And if Bush hadn't ducked, what would it have been? I think GWB is one of the worst presidents, ever. But you don't throw shoes at the president.

I really dont consider myself anti American and try to keep on mind that this bad administration doesnt represent the entire country, BUT sometimes its sooo hard.
We are talking about thousands of orphans, dead husbands, several of widows left without hope, thousands of kids who died or were left very ill because Bush and his team thought it was a good idea to invade a country with NO reason at all, in fact based on a lie and wrong facts. So I feel no problem in someone throwing a shoe on him. In fact I pray for God that he burn in hell when he dies.

Before the thread gets hijacked by the pro-shoe throwers... Take of your shoe. Yell, "George Bush, you are worse than my shoe!". Throw your shoe at the base of the podium. Do not whip your shoes, twice, at the president's head.
Heck, if anything, it reminded me of one of the few admirable qualities that Bush has -- good reflexes.

Thousands of people, Iraqis, Afghans, Americans and Britons, have died in this horrible, senseless war.
I suggest Biden reserves his sympathy for someone more worthy. Bush is a murderer, a liar, a crook, and he can go fucking burn in hell for all I care.
I am so proud of that Iraqi journalist for throwing shoes at Bush... that filthy dog!

With any luck, that will be Bush's legacy. Dodging a shoe like a dog that's taken a shit in the middle of a nice rug.
If Bush would have looked hurt or embarrassed, then I would have felt some sympathy for him. But did you see his face? He was smirking. That stupid shit-eating-grin he has.
Be gone Bush. He has lowered the bar for our Presidency. May we never have another like him.

I'm no Bush fan, but the guy has some stones. Instead of cowering on the floor waiting for a Secret Service shield, he just ducks it and stands back up with a "fuck you" grin. I thought it was hilarious.

Tool. You can't blame Biden for voting for the war when the false intelligence presented made every congress person believe it was a just cause.
As for throwing the shoe. Its not right, but with it being Bush I could understand.

Midwest Doug makes an interesting point. What if the shoes had hit? I suppose it depends on how hard the impact and so on and so forth, but watercooler conversation around the world would be completely different.
I guess I am happy the guy threw his shoes and I am also happy that Bushed ducked both of them. The way it worked out ended up being a perfect symbol of Iraqi frustration with the absolute devastation our president has brought to their country. If the shoes had hit their target, I don't know, it would have diluted the purity of the moment somehow.

Good Comp. A guy who has lost countrymen, lost peers to the violence caused by Bush, a guy who was tortured by those taking advatage of the chaos of the Bush occupation, losing his cool during Bush's Victory lap, that'd be the same as a tax delinquent who thinks Social Security is the nanny state, a guy who claims to be harmed by lowering the highest tax bracket to six times his salary, showing his contempt for commonly held principals of both parties. You thought that one through.
