Jurassic Laughs

Directed by Brad Silberling, Land of the Lost (Universal, 6.9.09) is...there's no point in saying anything smart-ass about this. Night at the Museum meets Jurassic Park and Jumanji. A klutzy but likable forest ranger Will Ferrell and his two kids "inadvertently stumble into a mysterious land populated by dinosaurs and other creatures, including the mysterious and dangerous race of Sleestak," etc.

This thing looks nothing like the original series ... so why do it?? Oh yeah ... money.

What a waste. Ferrell needs something new for his tremendous and tremendously-wasted talents.

I am just curious will young audiences remember the series or care to go see this movie? Will this be another Universal Pictures mistake?

hollyman - it's never about if the young audiences remember these things. They don't, as the syndication pretty ended before they old enough to see it.

But the title will get suckers of our generation who might not normally show up for Will Farrell comedy or CGI-fest to show up out of nostalgia either at the box office or DVD.

As cheesey as these shows were, I'm really sick of "the suits" taking their annual crap on our pasts with these flicks. If you can't do a straight-up remake like The Fugitive or a new take like BSG then stay the fuck away. Otherwise, at least one above the line person involved should get their ass-kicked behind the dumpster late one night leaving their studio lot office.

They actually tried to remake the series in the 90s, but no one was interested the first time, so why bother? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101130/ Personally, I'd like to see them take a stab at Lidsville, preferably from the Mr. Show guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btpd8zg5VWA&feature=related

Deathtongue: I imagine this flick will do as well for Ferrell as Bewitched.

I'm still amazed of why anybody exec would agree this was a good idea.

With all the problems NBC/Universal with the theme parks, the network and the studio it boggles the mind. I really hope this movie doesn't fail but if it does it would be nice to see the people who thought it was a good idea to bring this to the big screen get let go instead of people who had nothing to do with get let go.

I actually rented the series on DVD to show my kids a few episodes. My 10-year-old enjoyed them. The budgets were so low, it requires viewer imagination to play along.

I think the movie would be better if it was still Ranger Rick and his two kids, but Danny R. McBride and Anna Friel are too old to be Will Ferrell's kids.

If it succeeds, it means Pufnstuf might get off the ground. Then the studio has to figure the delicate balance of a dragon mayor that talks like Andy Griffith presiding over a bunch of talking animals and appliances that sound like they're auditioning for Laugh-In. It's like injecting caramel directly into your brain.
