to the people above me, i thought they had used digital technology to take audio of his voice and make him able to say this? so it is his voice, sort of.
and it's hard to say if he would be okay with this or not, none of us knew him, its 28 years later. i think the idea of having someone promote somthing, a charity, or a product, whatever, without their permission, wouldn't go over too well with most people. i think that's why it shouldn't be done, it does't matter that it's for a good cause.
the only reason really they're doing this is for promotion. it's gotten them a lot of exposure.
Absolutely ghoulish. These CGI sock puppets are the equivalent of stapling a corpses mouth and doing a marionette show. I can't believe Yoko Ono allowed this to happen. Let poor John Lennon rest in peace. What would have been classier and more emotionally powerful would have been to get Paul McCartney talk about his friend John Lennon who would imagine through his music... Knowing Paul I'm sure he would have done something like that. This is really depressing.

I find it very disturbing, this whole exercise of raising the dead to pitch products and ideas. Who cares if they would have approved or not? It's creepy and wrong to even have that discussion. Surrendering one's corporeal existence should exempt you from being second-guessed, as well as from participating in somebody's ill-conceived ad campaign.

Ray: "And Yoko cashes yet another check out of John Lennon's cold, cold asshole."
I don't think she's as bad as the guy who made a movie about his killer. Plus, it seems more like a non-profit kind of thing to me. The check-cashing would be when his former buddies tried to build a new song out of his old material on those Anthology releases.
"When is this woman going to die????"
Give her a break. She's had it hard, too.

Or Paul could sing some lame manufactured pop song with John in the foreground and try to cut a CD off of it...
Actually, I think Lennon would have been delighted to have McCartney speak on his behalf. Obviously they were like brothers and though Lennon had the most bravado and was the most outspoken of the Beatles, it was McCartney who was musically the more talented. Yes, it goes without saying that neither Lennon nor McCartney were as good without each other as they were together, but if you look at the Beatles album case for case, McCartney's influence and contribution was the most significant to the group. Abbey Road, arguably their best album, was almost McCartney's alone (Lennon barely showed up to the studio) and the White Album (perhaps their second best) is also dominated by McCartney and also Harrison who is never credited enough. There is no question that Lennon was a great musician but he did not have the scope or range as McCartney. As bad as many of McCartney's solo efforts are, one can never forget that it was his song "Yesterday" which was the first tune to demonstrate that the Beatles were more than just a flash in the pan. I know it's fashionable to bash Paul and deify Lennon, but in the long run I think history will be kinder to McCartney for his profound contributions to the Beatles and pop music history.

In a better world, George's post would be the most incendiary of all HE posts... but this ain't no better world.
I disagree with all of GH's choices... Abbey Road to me is their worst album... overproduced aural band-aids lathered over unfinished and uninspired tunes.
I agree McCartney is given short shrift in Lennon's shadow, but I guess John's legacy looms larger (like Ringo's drums)... I'm thinking not only of John's beautiful and rigorous work with The Beatles (Help, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, Girl, etc.) but that shocking monument to melody and melancholy, Plastic Ono Band.
I'll quit for now... this is a movie site, right?
PS... in a better world, or this one, Abbey Road still kicks the ass of anything out there right now.

I'm sure he'd be ok with the idea, since it's a charitable thing. But he probably would want a better imitator.

After all, they didn't even use their own voices in Yellow Submarine.

Still not as bad as Nike using Lennon's Revolution for one of their commercials (courtesy of anti-christ Michael Jackson?).
Then again, could anything be?

When is this woman going to die???? Given the nature of the universe, she will probably end up the last surviving Beatle.
